Any triathletes?

So I've been kicking around the idea of doing a triathlon. There's a sprint triathlon in my area in the beginning of April (400 swim, 5k run and 12.5 mile bike).

The swimming would be the easiest for me, as I've swam at the collegiate level. I can run a 5k in under 25 easily, so that's cool as well. However, I don't think I've been on a bike since I was about 10.

Anybody have any training advice, especially for the biking?

I'm not a triathlete, but one of my sorority sisters is.

She, like you, was a swimmer and runner--and those are her specialties. Biking is hardest for her.

I know when she bought a bike she talked to guys at a good bike shop about finding one that would be good for triathlons. And she just gets herself to ride it.

I think if you just start doing it, and doing it more and more often you'll find it easier.

I rode an 11 mile ride this summer after not really riding in years. Yeah, it was hard (I didn't really train for it), but it wasn't too impossible. It's true what they say--you don't forget how to ride. I would just suggest constant practice.

ME!!!!

I'm running my first half-iron this summer!!

I did a bunch of sprints last summer with a quarter-iron as the end of the season. I actually just got back from training with the tri club.

you should try (tri) this site:
www.beginnertriathlete.com

It's great inspiration, there's free online training logs, good training programs (free, good training programs!) and the people are awesome.

when I did my first one...I hadn't a CLUE what I was doing. It was a 400m pool swim, 20 mile bike, and a 5k run. Swim rocked, bike sucked (borrowed my boyfriend's illfitting bike) and the run was killer...but I LOVED THE EVENT!! It was so much fun, and you'll get hooked easily.

I have a co-worker who is a triathelte after being a competitive swimmer in college. She does a lot of spin classes in the winter when she can't get outside and ride. Her least fave part of the triathlon is the running, although she's good at it.
