Pedophiles on Dateline NBC
Dateline NBC had an expose tonight on pedophiles, who use the internet to arrange 'dates' with children - and the people who track them. NBC set up a home full of hidden cameras, and arranged for 19 of the pervs to meet their 'dates' at the house.
It was pretty funny in a few cases.
One perv agreed to come to the house, and the 'date' told him to enter via the garage and remove his clothes. He did, and walked into the house expecting to see his 'date' naked too.
He didn't realize he was on camera, and talked to the NBC guy about his 'problem' and the need to get help (and he was seeing a shrink, he said).
The funny part - the very next day he was back on the internet, looking for a date, and the NBC camera caught him at a restaurant where he had agreed to meet a 'date.'

That was a repeat and I didn't find it funny at all. In fact, I made my 11 year old daughter watch it so she could see what kinds of sickos are out there since she has entered the world of IM.
Parents, know what your kids are doing online. It's scary.

I saw this when it aired the first time and it is really scary. These guys are total sickos.
I forgot tho... in most cases did the man actually give their real age, or do they ever use a fake age?

I agree there is nothing "funny" about pedophiles meeting and luring children on the intenet! It is actually sick!
And if your recap of the show is correct then I am appalled that NBC had a gathering of people known to prey on children and then let them walk out to do it again.

What angers me is that there is no real cure for sexual predators, when I last studied about abnormal psychology. Aversion therapy doesn't work for long; castration just leads to a violence of a different sort.
Since they don't seem to be able to be rehabilitated, what's to become of these freaks? Lock them up and throw away the key? (Not that I'm against that!)

Yeah, I watched it the first time it came on and it really made we worry about my younger sister...she's in high school and she spends a lot of time online, and I'm afraid she's going to run into some psycho freaks. Not that she would ever arrange to meet them or anything because my parents are really strict and she's hardly ever out of their sight, but still. Knowing that she might come into contact with perverts like that is disconcerting.

Uh, NBC has no powers of arrest, and if they'd brought the cops along the guys would probably just yell entrapment.

There are a few situations in which I really like the idea of vigilante justice.

Exactly. If some nasty old guy went after my daughter then he would have hell to pay from my whole family.

I watched last night. There was a total of like 50 guys that came through. Very sad.
