Chico Local: Strippers and Investigation
An unrecognized local fraternity at California State U – Chico, Tau Gamma Theta, has got the school back in the news. This time it’s a party with strippers, and a difference of opinion about whether oral sex was occurring. The police say it was. The business that supplied the strippers, and the fraternity, say it wasn’t. The investigation is going on.
The story:

My favorite excerpt
Earlier this semester, Tau Gamma Theta wrote a letter to university President Paul Zingg, telling him the fraternity would ignore his list of recommendations for Greeks citing Christian core ideals.
The fraternity was later suspended from university recognition, so they were able to hold recruitment parties.
Pledges were present for the strip show, Angel-Gilliard said.
However, Angel-Gilliard said the event was just a recruitment party with two strippers, and no one was breaking the law.
I ‘ve been mulling over what I remember from Sunday School, reading, and sermons over the years, and I honestly can’t remember learning anything about strippers being part of “Christian core ideals.” There was the dance before Herod that got John the Baptist’s head on a platter, but that really can’t be considered an example of an “ideal,” plus it isn’t explicitly said that stripping happened. Maybe some GCers who have taken Bible-as-literature or theology courses could help me out?

This isn't clear writing -- did the Tau Gamma Theta letter cite Christian core ideals, or did the President's recommendations for Greeks cite Christian core ideals?

Valkyrie, it was Tau Gamma Theta that cited Christian values. See:

(Occam's Razor would apply here too, I think: just how likely would it be that a moderately highly-placed public employee, especially in multicultural California, would cite the values of a particular religion in a statement that is sure to be publicized?)

LOL you never know.
Also funny is the fact that when I originally looked at the article, I mistook "Orion" for "Onion" -- haha.

That frat is one of the 2 orgs that are choosing to lose University recognition by rushing this semester. They, in particular, have said in the Orion that they are going to do whatever they want. Alpha Chi sorority is the other org. that has lost recognition.

Greek rush returns at Chico State, with changes
By MELISSA DAUGHERTY - Staff Writer
Decades of traditions that were lost last year following the death of a pledge will be reborn this week in Chico's Greek community.
Spring rush begins today at Chico State University for fraternities, but it's a whole new game, say university officials.
...
Recruitment for sororities began last week. It was the first time in about a year that Chico State allowed such activity.
University President Paul Zingg prohibited it last semester in response to the hazing death of Matthew Carrington. The 21-year-old was pledging Chi Tau — a fraternity that lost its university affiliation in 2002 but continued to operate on its own.
...
"There was a fork in the road, and you went the Chi Tau way or you went the university way," he said. "And we didn't want to be disgraced like Chi Tau was."
