Cecilia Zhang

I don't know if there was a thread posted about her. But Cecilia Zhang was a little girl who went missing this past October. Her body was found sometime in March.

They have arrested 2 suspects in her disappearence and murder.

This is coming from an American living in Canada...
Sorry but a lot of the time y'all are too light on crime. Quite a few people in BC are still pissed about the street racing kids that got house arrest for killing a Mountie in a car chase!

I am glad they caught the bastard and I gotta admit I kinda wish y'all had the death penalty

I agree, we can be too soft on crime. And yes, there are times when I wish we still had the death penalty (Paul Bernardo and his wife come to mind...who is getting out next year and quite frankly I hope they make her life a living hell because she should be in jail for the rest of her life and I hope the crown attorney lost his/her job for making that deal)

The Young Offenders Act is a joke and seriously needs revamping. I don't know how many times people have said this but yet it never seems to be an issue for the government in power.

The Peel Region police chief apparently made a few comments that could taint the jury selection, according to a radio report. Basically he held up a picture of the accused and said that he was a "child killer". The chief is being criticized since the accused is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty.

Edited to add the quotation.

Oh... her life will be hell. Remember that sex offender from Brampton who was released? It's going to be like that. Except worse.

Scary fact: His mom works for the Shanghai police

Edited because I had first thought his mom's a cop, but it turns out that she has a civilian position for the police force.

BRAMPTON - Chinese visa student Min Chen today admitted in court that he abducted and murdered 9-year-old Cecilia Zhang.

With defence lawyer John Rosen standing by his side, the 23-year-old pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the Oct. 20, 2003 slaying of the Toronto schoolgirl.

I heard this on Vancouver's news 1130 radio

I say lock him up in a room with inmates that can't see their children...
Let them do a job on his ass!

You know, I somehow don't believe that the girl was dead by the time he took her out of the house.

Crime in this country [Canada] is getting worse everyday, especially in the big cities. For example, two teenage boys were arrested yesterday for bank hold-ups around the Lower Mainland. The RCMP officer heading the case was in shock and disbelief as he had never seen someone so young involved in bank robberies before.

The scary thing I am finding in Vancouver is that the majority of crimes committed as of late are by teenagers and people in their lates teens-early 20's.

I hope the Harper government and their budget will begin to address a lot of these problems. I was happy to hear the announcements regarding adding more federal police as this affects my current situation directly, or my husband's current situation - he is in the middle of the RCMP recruitment process.

Just look at the triple murder that happened here in medicine hat. The girl thats been charged with killing her parents and 8 year old brother, is 12. Sure she had help from her sketch ass 23 year old boyfriend, but most of what i've heard points to her actually doing the killing, specifically her brother.

I don't know about Vancouver, but in Toronto, more serious crimes tend to happen in CERTAIN AREAS of the city. For example, murders tend to happen in certain parts of Scarborough, Rexdale or "Jane and Finch." Interestingly, Regent Park, which is home to the oldest housing project still in existence, hasn't had that much violent crime as of late.

Oh please, you Canadians and your "crime". We have more crime in one day in Detroit then Ontario has all year Unbelievable, I park in a deserted parking lot in Windsor for 20 mins and my car gets towed and impounded, yet you can kill a little kid and only get ten years.
