Sigma Nu at CU - Fate to be known soon
Reported this morning on local Denver channel (31)....no link yet, but the Sigma Nu chapter at CU, accused of hazing violations that also has resulted in the expulsion of several SN students from CU - the chapter's fate will be known sometime this week, and from the news story's take, doesn't sound too encouraging.
Updates as I get them...

The February 2 '06 Colorado Daily has a story headlined "Cleaning up the house." Sigma Nu has suspended 27 of the 29 upperclassmen in the chapter. Two upperclassmen and "16-17" newly-initiated freshmen remain. The article says that at this time the chapter will remain open. See

Do the fraternities generally own their houses at this school?

It appears they do.
Unfortunately, the GLO housing is interspersed with private homes, and a block from a gaggle of campus bars.
I think SN has one of the better looking houses. I visited two summers ago.

So given that the administration doesn't recognize them, they are free to do what they want given that they all own houses? I don't mean they're free to break the laws but clearly the administration no longer has any say right?

From the article linked above: "However, the Greek system has added the Alpha Alpha Pi fraternity and there are more fraternities looking to start chapters at CU, according to Stein."
Alpha Alpha Pi? Is that a local fraternity or did they mean Alpha Epsilon Pi?

AEPi was chartered their in 1977 and it was re-founded in 2002 (I don't know what year it shut down).

I'd say that's true.
I suspect, though, that in order to be a viable part of the campus community, they would have to have interaction with university.
As a fraternity member, I think I would want them to. Otherwise, why not join the Elks or Mooses or other big animals on campus.

Interact how with the university? Like inviting the Dean to a dinner or something?

Sure, and Mrs. Wormer (sp?), too.
