Roommate Rants
I figured I'd start this tread to be used for future roommate rants, not just mine.
Ok, so I've lived with Alice for almost 2 years now. We both work for the same company, and for a long time she was my boss. Both of us were new to the area, and neither had many local friends. Through work, Alice became acquaintences with Margie. Margie and I have met several times, but haven't had the chance to develop a friendship. Last night, Alice called Margie to see what she was doing, and Margie was having a party. I was sitting at home. By myself. Alice didn't even have the courtesy to invite me along. I invite Alice to do pretty much anything I do, because I know how it feels to sit there while other people are having fun. It wasn't like the party was closed or elitist, I could have met valuable contacts that could help me with my career, not to mention making new friends. What gets me is she came back and told me all about the party and who was there, kind of like she was rubbing it in my face. I wanted to say listen, if I wasn't there then I really don't care. Thanks for nothing, biatch.
This isn't the first time Alice has acted like this. We're part of a professional group that has an annual institute. The first year we went, I went out of my way to mingle and meet new people, and not just hang out with her clique, but she never really made me feel included or welcome in the first place. I didn't really think anything of it. But the next year, there was another girl in the same situation, but her coworker took her under her wing and made her included in the clique.
Maybe I'm just a horrible person that doesn't deserve to make friends? Either way, I'm through inviting Alice places. But I don't know how to go about it without seeming like a whiney brat, like I do in this post.
Oh, plus, do I look for a new place to live? Our condo is really sweet, close to work, and convenient. I'd hate to have to downgrade.

I'm not trying to be funny, but....
How do you look AND how does Alice look? From my own experiences, you situation sounds like raving jealousy. Especially the part where she comes back to tell you about the party she got invited to and you didnt. Its kinda like saying "Ha! you think your soooo cute. Well I went out and met people and had fun and you didnt!". I would watch her very carefully. Sounds like the type to whisper things about you when you are not around. OR am I projecting?
I want to rant about my roommate. I wish I knew how to post pictures, I would put up a picture of her. Her name is "Nile" and I am ready to sell her on EBAY. She is always following me. Everytime I go in the kitchen, she stops what she is doing to follow me. Hoping I offer her some food. She never communicates with me. So I dont know she is angry until she flips out and does something crazy. She doesnt get alone with anyone I invite over. She just stares and makes my guests all uncomfortable. I mostly invite people over when she isnt around or is in the room. Just unsociable. She is downright nasty, nasty nasty. The other day she peed on the carpet in the living room. WHO LIVES LIKE THAT!?!?!? The house smells like pee. Nasty heffa. She is always messing with her privates. Just nasty. I guess I shouldnt be too mad. She is a dog.

Hey, jess_pom, I used to live with an Alice type! I can sympathize on the party thing because she did almost the exact same thing to me...some girl she was friends with at work (who was rumored to moonlight as sort of an escort, I guess you'd say) was having some kind of get-together at a local bar and a couple well-known college athletes were going to be there. My roommate originally asked me if I wanted to come and I said sure because I didn't have any plans, but I guess her friend nixed the idea because that sort of went out the window. So not only did I get uninvited, but my roommate didn't even tell me--she just started getting ready and then casually asked what I would be doing that night while she was out. But wait, here's the icing on the cake--she asked to borrow some of my clothes to go out in! I didn't know what to say so I just let her, and then she ended up wearing one of my favorite tops and throwing up on it later that night...
That's why I live alone now.

Your roommate sounds like a cat. Very "catty" behaviour. (Yeah, yeah, I know, that was corny.)
