What to answer
I went through fall rush but dropped out b/c of circumstances beyond my control. Now I'm rushing again in the spring and I have one question: What do I say when a sister asks me "So why did you decide to come out for (houses name here). I know that I love the idea of sisterhood, the community benefitdss, etc, but whats a good way to sum this all up without sounding too goody-goody? Thanks. By the way, I'm rushing NPC. THANKS AGAIN!

You don't want to sound too goody goody? What you listed are the primary functions of greek orgs. If that's why you're wanting to join, you need to speak up. Tell them you're interested in helping to benifit the community and being involved in a group as tightly knit as a sorority. Don't try to cover up why you want to join because you risk sounding goody goody. You want the girls to know YOU, not the person trying to be 'cool'.

mgdzkm433 (Mikki) makes a good point. I think saying something like you are interesting in making new friends and getting more involved on campus, sound like basic, reasonable answers to me. I think the main reason for joining something whether it be a GLO, a volleyball intramurals team or the Spanish Club is to have fun and meet people!!!

SandyBeaches,
Although I see your point I agree with Mikki. Just be yourself. If youd dont and they do choose you then you are really doing yourself less of a service and the sorority. That is one reason I really liked a Beta at my school when I rushed. I felt that is was rather unique in that respect compared to other fraternities on campus. That it wasnt a show or that you were "trying" to prove something. This might be a bad analogy but think of a guy hitting on girl in a bar and totally acting like hes someone else. Most girls tend to see right through that. Just remember these girls have rushed before and they have been there.

Your reasons are perfect, but if you have personal info to go along with your reasons, add that. For example: "My friends from high school and I are complete opposites. I've been with the same guy since I was a freshman, and they...well, get around. They are about to fail out of school (I'm 2nd year) & they party all the time. I'm looking for people who are more like myself, and trying to get away from bad influences."
That's almost exactly what I said when I rushed this year. Whatever your reasons, don't be generic or fake. Good luck!
