Wink Serenading to Sororities?

Hey!

I'm new to this board, and I just had a question I figured all of you would be able to help me with! Anyway my fraternity needs to serenade to all the sororities on campus (I don't know how it works on other campuses, but at the beginning of the year all the fraternities serenade all the sororities). But I wanted to see if you all had any ideas on what my fraternity could do! Just to give you an idea, Pike here on campus has their new guys sings to the sororites in a Top Gun theme, and Pi Kapp last year I heard made their new guys serenade shirt and tie, but wearing boxers. Any of you have any good ideas? Themes, songs, etc? Thanks so much!

If you have any guys with musical talents, like guitar or sax, the girls go wild!

Also, it helps to bring roses to the sororities when you serenade them.

Some of my favorites were when the guys took a current pop song and rewrote the lyrics with our sororities' name in them! Dressing uniformly is fun-- ie: blue button down shirts with khaki's and neckties...

Also, if you can incorporate a brief skit in with your song, you will really stand out.

Have fun!

Agreed. I got to do a fiddle solo (I play fiddle) in the middle of a serenade -- we did Green Day's "Time of Your Life" (or whatever it's called). Was a good serenade. When we did things like that, we earned a pretty stellar reputation for serenades. I'm not sure how they are now though.

Chocolate roses were also a big hit on my campus...

Fraternity Men should serenade ladies with class and dignity.

As such, my advice is that a serenade should be appropriate for your Grandmother, your Mother, your Sister, your Girlfriend and perhaps, your future Bride to hear.

I did say ladies.

And if I may add, the honor of bestowing that designation - ladies or not - is the responsibility of the fraternity.

yeah, special songs with sorority names in there are awesome. As far as bringing stuff...It would be nice to bring a sign or something, or chocolate, or COOKIES! SORORITIES LOVE COOKIES!

(PS, make sure they know you're coming! girls who don't live in the house enjoy these things too!)

During serenades, have brothers or pledges/associate members/new members bring the women out to dance.

serenades???

How crazy, I thought serenading was only done in books. The fraternitys don't sereanade here, probably because we don't have houses. But hmm how fun!

Same here....

Where and why did this tradition start???

We don't have houses either, but I don't know if I would want every Fraternity on my campus to serenade my org just because its a given that they "have" to do it....

What do the sororites do in return? Do they serenade the guys??

It all depends on the campus... every campus has a different reason why groups serenade eachother... At my school it had been to try to get something returned... The sorority or fraternity would "borrow" an item from the chapter room (with permission from the chapter beforehand) and then the sorority or fraternity would sing to get it back... The chapter who "borrowed" the item will sing in response and then you give the item back... It is pretty fun... and groups do actually ask for permission beforehand, so it is all in good fun...

Ditto this. And while it may seem funny, the song shouldn't put down other chapters or the sorority in any way. We're dealing with a situation where a particular fraternity thought something was funny and quickly found out it wasn't when another house they went to asked them to leave.

we call them kissing carnations .....We do them mostly for our new members, most of the fraternitys have a song like the "Kappa Sigma Sweeheart" song...if not they make one up and have a guy play guitar. They get on one knee sing, then each guy has a name of a new member, steps to the front calls her name, gives her the carnation and kisses her cheek. Its sooo cute, i wish i was a baby again!
