Beware of Netflix and your mail carrier
Postal carrier accused of stealing over 1,250 DVDs
I signed up for Netflix last Saturday and got my first DVDs on Tuesday ("Crash" and "Funny Ha Ha.") As I opened one, I wondered: How many of these envelopes are stolen by mail carriers? (The envelopes are clearly marked Netflix, so it's no secret what they are.) And then I saw this story. I bet she's not the only one slipping DVDs into her pocket. (Update: A second carrier was busted.)

We use Blockbuster Online rather than Netflix, but it works much the same way as Netflix. (The difference is that we also get at least 2 coupons a month for free store rentals, along with the 3 DVDs at a time.)
With Blockbuster Online, when you send a DVD back, they e-mail you to say they have received it. So, if you send it back and don't get an e-mail within a few days, you know there's a problem and can report it.
Likewise, they e-mail you when they send you a movie so that you'll know to be suspicious if it doesn't arrive in a few days.
I assume Netflix does the same.

I've been a member of Netflix for a few years.
They offer the best selection I've seen and I order everything.
A few times I haven't gotten my order or it took a while for them to receive it when I returned it, but you can report it online if that's the case and they resend. Once I got impatient and reported it like 10 times and the froze my account and said I had to call in. I called in and they unfroze it immediately and just said to be more patient when reporting these things.
I'm pretty satisfied overall.

Blockbuster has been improving by leaps and bounds. Since they've switched to actually mailing the movies from the stores directly, they have become incredibly efficient at getting orders to me.

They have zero advantage over netflix. Plus their selection is less.

--And they charged me 20 bucks because i returned "Saved" a week late.

Beg to to differ. With Blockbuster Online, I can have 3 movies at a time for an unlimited length of time, plus I get e-mailed at least 2 coupons a month for free rentals from the store. Those coupons come in handy when you have kids who may not plan as far in advance as adults do about what movies they want to see. Plus I get coupons for buy-one DVD/get-one free, 50% off DVD purchases, game rentals, and the like from the store.
I pay $15.99 a month (although I know it is now $17.99). Netflix charges $17.99 for 3-at-time rentals (according to their website), and you get no coupons for rentals or purchases.
As for selection, don't know who has more, but there's never been a movie I wanted to rent that Blockbuster Online didn't have.

I have had Blockbuster online for a year and I love it. I've never had a problem getting any movie I want, and the in-store coupons are great. You can use them to get movies or to get video games which are normally $7 to rent. Like MysticCat said, it's fabulous.

Same price, but Blockbuster allows for in-store rentals. To me going to a store defeats the purpose of ordering online.
Really what it comes down to is that you are paying for the convenience of DVDs mailed to you and a large selection. Netflix has a larger selection and it's why Blockbuster has been bleeding lately (aside from expensive retail store costs). If I wasn't looking for a large selection, I would just go to McDonalds. They have 99 cent movies. That to me is a great deal.

NetFlix should start sending their DVDs in plain brown and unmarked packages. Just like how porn and adult toy companies mail their products. HA.
