Spiral Staircases
My sister's chapter of Alpha Phi had a beautiful one in the front hall (very Gone wit the wind) but the chapter at my school had one and it was just a tiny staircase near the back of the house leading to the kitchens. when I went through rush the girl pointed out the me that all the Alpha Phi houses were supposed to have one, and that was theirs. I must say it was kind of dissapointing compared to my sisters (lol, but it was neat that it still had one)
Is it really a standard across all Alpha Phi houses?

No...just another rush rumor. Although that is the first one involving a staircase I have ever heard. Most involve famous people that were never really Alpha Phi's!

that's so strange! My sister claims that she was told that when she joined, and when I rushed they told me that and showed me their tiny staricase, lol. Well, maybe it's just the state I live in,lol.

No spiral stairs in any of our houses by me, or at most of the houses I've visited. It sounds like an odd rush rumor, like aphigal said.
Just out of curiosity, where are you and where is your sister? The staircase you described sounds like the one at Penn.

what a funny rumor! having said that, my chapter house had a spiral staircase in the front foyer that was very stunning. The foyer was two stories high with the spiral staircase and the big dipper in lights in the ceiling (like at the executive office).

That sounds beautiful! Is there a spiral staircase in the exec office? Maybe that is where the rumor started. I think that a spiral staricase is something that a lot of different sorority houses have.
That's so weird I had heard the rumor from two different chapters. Maybe it's a midwest thing.
where did you go to school?

No spiral staircase in the EO ... but there is a dipper light in the entryway. Sorry for the confusion!

I don't know about spiral staircases, but most chapter houses have several staircases due to fire codes. Sorry to be so practical :-)
