They better not take them off the market.

There are so few deaths that it's almost inconsequential.

Should we ban swimming in the ocean for fear of shark attacks? I believe sharks have claimed more lives than Ritalin.

While the medicine I took ended up not working out in the long run, it did help me for quite a long while.

This country is becoming less compasionate.

There are alternatives to Ritalin (although nothing worked for me like a huge cup of BLACK coffee). I had to try an alternative my sophmore year in HS when Ritalin messed up the smooth muscles in my eyes so bad I got hit in the face with a softball because I couldn't focus on it fast enough to get my glove in the right spot.

I agree. I don't know why many people deny it.

I've been off my meds since like last November. Caffiene is a great substitute, when used the right way. Certain supplements have also worked.

Also, there's several conditions that can cause false ADD symptoms, or worsen the symptoms if you do have it. I have some weird sensitivity to food dyes and have mild hypoglycemia. My condition is a lot easier to manage when I take care of those other problems.

LOL I take 20mg of Adderall XR every day and have half a pot of coffee. I'd need to be hooked up to an IV coffee dispenser without the Adderall. I'd end up like Tweek from South Park. AAAAAAAAH.

I disagree that the country is being less compassionate. The problem is there are some people are getting access to Ritalin without a prescription and there are some idiot parents who push doctors to give the diagnosis of ADD to their kid without ever having any symptoms so their kid can use Ritalin to have an advantage in the classroom. Then when something tragic happens, the same people sue to blame everyone involved.

Ritalin is not a magic "smart" drug, it's a stimulant. There generally speaking, are no advantages to anyone who does not have ADD taking Ritalin, and in fact, it's likely to cause them to be jittery and less focused, as the stimulant works as a stimulant for the non-ADD.

ADD meds can give a non-ADD person an advantage...in indirect ways. Stimulant medications are similar to, but more potent, than caffiene. Like people who take No-Doz or drink a 2 liter of Mountain Dew to pull all-nighters, people can also use ADD medication the same way. Especially if they snort it.

Let's hope that parents aren't letting their kids snort the stuff!!!

However, the fact that people abuse the system doesn't mean that people who don't abuse the system should lose access to drugs that improve their lives.

I agree with you. I have ADHD. After reading the FDA advisory committee report, I'm more informed with regards to how long Adderall was off of the market before being reinstated.

The effects of snorting are much shorter and it doesn't even begin to compare to caffeine. If you want to compare it to something try cocaine - hence the danger.
