On that note...would you boycot a restaurant/store because of advertising?

The thread about the scary Burger King, er, thing makes me wonder...would you all consider boycotting a restaurant or store because of their advertisements? I hardly ever eat fast food, but if I did, I might think twice about going to Burger King just because of that creepy-arse mascot they've got. And my parents hate a local furniture store's commercials so much that they have vowed to shop at every place but that one the next time they need a new couch. What do you all think?

I wouldn't boycott a place just because it's got a creepy or annoying commercial. If it had some kind of offensive ad, I would probably boycott it. But, if the ads are just weird or annoying, I wouldn't. If the commercials look really cheap and crappily done (like those local furniture stores or local car dealerships where the person in the ad screams something like "THESE PRICES ARE CRRRRRRAAAAAAAZZZZYYYYYY!!!!!"), they make me think the store's products might be shoddy and the salespeople might be kinda sketchy. And that would be the reason I would avoid the store, but not because the ad annoys me.

I would never go to a lawyer who has crazy commercials. There's a bankruptcy firm (they do a few other types of work, too) that's actually located a few floors below us. They do the strangest, most unprofessional commercials (Steidl and Steinberg, for you Pittsburghers), and are just as strange in person.

I wouldn't necessarily boycott another business because of their commercials, but you never know.

I don't like BK to begin with, so even though I agree that king dude is creepy, i don't eat there unless absolutely forced to!

I would boycott if I felt their advertising weren't honest, or was truly offensive for some reason, but not just because I didn't like it or it annoyed me.

For the advertising? No.

For the quality of the food and the kind of service provided? Definitely.

I haven't eaten at Denny's for more than 5 years now because I've been discriminated against on 3 separate occasions. Once I was even called a "god-damned 'Spic" at a Las Vegas Denny's restaurant. That was the last time I ever stepped into one.

They TOTALLY creep me out!!! I called the radio station that I listen to faithfully, and said that if I hear one more of their ads, I'll change stations. And I meant it!

I think this is the better way of handling bad commercials - contact the PR arm of the product, and tell them that you hate their ads, and don't plan to use (product) until they get a new firm. Don't threaten, just tell them why you dislike the ad, and that you're not buying. They'll get the picture fast enough!

On the law firm note, I've got a few words for Central Floridians:

Morgan & Morgan, the firm formerly known as Morgan Colling and Gilbert...say it with me...FOR THE PEOPLE!

Yeah, I would never go with any firm that has a cheesy television commercial.

There's a lawyer in Milwaukee that's the "tough, smart lawyer."

Gee, and I really wanted a wimpy, stupid one.

The only thing that I can think of at this moment that makes me want to boycott a product or store......are ads before movies at the theater.

Nothing infuriates me more than that. I pay ten bucks a ticket, another ten or fifteen for drinks and popcorn and then I have to sit through fifteen minutes of commercials and ads.

Man that pisses me off.

Two words... Victory Honda.

The girl's voice is like nails on a chalkboard. I wouldn't boycott, but it just makes the place so unappealing and whenever I drive by one it reminds me of that girl's voice.

Now the Quizno's commercials with those scary rats... that made me wana go there.

Ditto!

On another note, I was in WV a few weeks ago visiting my sister and I saw like 3 billboards that just said "Where is Sam?" And now I'm like where is Sam? Who is Sam? No one seems to know.

Ditto! I thought I was the only one who was totally annoyed by her. There was a Chrysler/Plymouth girl who had an annoying voice too.. she did the "Howdy Neighbor" ad when they were offering employee discount to everybody.

The commercial would have to be pretty offensive for me to boycott the place.

The talk of lawyers brings up a recent experience. There's this guy in Massachusetts who has those really annoying "personal injury" commercials, where he wildly gestures at the screen and looks kind of sleazy. It turns out he's selling his house; they did a spread in the Globe, and the place is out of control. I can't imagine so many people go to him.

Of course, it doesn't hurt that his wife owns and operates one of the most well-known restaurants in Boston, but still...
