Congrats - enjoy your pledging, its a time you will never forget. Have a fun time, and soak it all up. When you're alumn, you'll be wishing you were still an undergrad!
Have fun!

Thursday will mark 32 years since I pledged.
No way it seems that long.
My recommendation: read as much as you can, study carefully, and watch for the unexpected surprises - far more awaits you than you can imagine.
Even brothers - even ancient brothers - continue to discover new lore as time goes on, for the treasury to which we hold the keys is as deep as the human heart.
I will quote from a very interesting reference, remarkable for the items it unites:
Quote:
Considered as a collector of rare and precious things, the amateur astronomer has a great advantage over amateurs in all other fields, who must usually content themselves with second and third-rate specimens. For example, only a few of the world's mineralogists could hope to own such a specimen as the Hope diamond... In contrast, the amateur astronomer has access at all times to the original objects of his study; the masterworks of the heavens belong to him as much as to the great observatories of the world. And there is no privilege like that of being allowed to stand in the presence of the original.
(Robert Burnham, Jr.: Burnham's Celestial Handbook, page 5)
|
So have a care and govern yourself accordingly - and the time will come when you will see how accurate this reference is.

geez... it seems like yesterday that I got my bid. I honestly can't imagine what my life would be like with Beta.
Congrats on being selected and good luck with your pledge period... Make the best of it!

The 5th anniversary of my initiation was two weeks ago. I honestly don't know where I would be without Beta. I'm sure that I probably wouldn't be in medical school, and I know that my undergrad years would not have been nearly as memorable.
To our newest pledge, I say this: Get to know everyone in your chapter, from the fifth year about to graduate to your pledge brothers - ESPECIALLY your pledge brothers. Don't let the little things drive you apart. If an older guy says something to you about your actions, he probably has a good reason and try to remedy the situation as quickly as possible. Give your all during your pledge period - I mean really try to take it all in, and do what's asked of you.
But most of all, enjoy it. There will be times when you'll be pissed off at the chapter and what people are doing or whatever, but don't let those things drive you away from Beta. The week after graduation, I and 11 of my pledge brothers went to Vegas for four days...that's only 1/2. There are some guys that we never even asked because they had gotten so far away from the house in the four years...don't be one of those guys. I'm sure that my memories of that trip will last the rest of my lifetime and it's sad that those guys didn't get a chance to join us because of choices they made two or three years prior.
