Corporate Holiday Events
I am responsible for my (new--I've only been here 3 months) company's End of the Year/Holiday Luncheon, which will be held this Friday. The owner/CEO is Jewish, and is adament about nothing remotely Christian or even secular Christmas be associated with this event.
Right now it is just a lunch at a decent local Italian resturant not to far from the job. They serve the food family style, so that should be interesting. Anyway, I'm looking for something to make things a little fun. The company culture has been all work and no play, and they are now trying to change that (because turnover has been kinda bad, but that's another story), hence the luncheon (1st one in years) We are already planning on mixing everyone up (so departments don't "clump"), but does anyone have any other ideas of something we can do to make it more than just lunch?
Secret Santa or anything like that was nixed. I thought of doing a trivia contest with prizes, but did not want to make it Christmas related for the above reasons, so that was nixed. We have considered doing a company trivia game, and them maybe random pulling of names for gifts, but not sure about that.
Any ideas?

What about giving out funny, lighthearted awards to the employees?
Or have people write predictions for the new year? Those can turn out to be funny- some can be company related and some not.
My brain is stuck right now so that's all I can think of. Look at party411.com and they might have more ideas on their message boards.

When I was in 3rd grade, my teacher was Jewish and she let us play with her dradel....it's really fun, it's a betting type game. Maybe your boss would let you do Jewish things.
Paging docet for more ideas...

Nope...that's out too as I think many of the Christians would be offended if it was just Jewish traditions, instead of a combo as was proposed (Christmas, Hanakah and Kwanza).

Ask everyone to bring a can food so it can be donated to the local Food Pantry in your town as a company. Or a friendly competition can be set up between departments. The prize is bragging rights and some kind of tiara to be worn by the winning dept. manager.

Get everyone to sit around and complain that if this event could have been associated with an actual holiday it might have been fun.

LOL . This happens after the luncheon.
Seriously, Eclipse, I think a light-hearted trivia game about the company with prizes wouldn't be bad.
Good lucky coming up with something fun, but "neutral".

you could give out prizes based on answers to the company triva questions. Or do a current events trivia game with prizes.

Get the CEO's secretary - who most at the office see as a fun, but 'calm' girl - to get up on her banquette and dance. Definitely gets the party started!
Not that I would know anything about that...
