San Francisco Officers Investigated for Controversial Videos

I heard about this incident this morning while getting my hair done . . .

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/LegalCenter/story?id=1384966

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...120800384.html

Reportedly 20 Officers have been suspended. This morning they had the officer who created the video on GMA. He stated this was a video meant to be a morale boost to the force at a year end party or something to that effect.

I watched the clips of the video that were shown on GMA. The clip I saw showed a police officer running over a Black homeless woman.

http://www.sfexaminer.com/articles/2..._ne01_tape.txt

I am still looking for video footage.

I saw some of the video footage this morning on the news. I'm still not decided what I think about it. Yes, the video can be looked at as offensive, but doesn't the creator have the right to make it? I have to think about this one.

I'm in a quandary as well.

I really value the right to free speech. But, what was the purpose of the video? Why was it made? If Joe Bigot, cop, made it on his down time, that's his perrogative. But, if it's an official video, that's different

I saw this on GMA this morning too. The creator of the video stated that he made it as a "spoof" for their captain's upcoming roast (or some event of the sort). From what I saw, every scene did in some way mention the captain.

Without having seen the entire video and just based on what what shown (ie the black man in drag dressed up to seduce the captain, the police officer checking out the woman he pulled over, etc.) I just think it was the department's bad attempt at being funny - or maybe it was actually funny but GMA only picked out certain clips. I don't know. I need to see the entire video.

Does anyone remember when Whoopi got into trouble for her comments at a Friar's roast????? If it was really done for a roast, then I'm not trippin'. But........ that being said, I'm still going to drive REAL careful when I got into SF this week.

Are you speaking of when Ted Dansen (who was her boyfriend at the time ) did Al Josen's Mammy routine to her when she was being roast?

Okay, I saw a decent portion of the tape on KPIX (local news station for San Francisco/East Bay Area) and truthfully, it reminded me of a Dave Chappel Show. It came off as parody...nothing more, nothing less, nothing to read more indepthly into...just off beat humor and entertainment for a retirement farewell party for the Capt. of that station.

IMHO, I think the focus and energy should go towards the situations haunting Bay View and Hunters Point ... and throw a little attention towards the crap we have to experience when riding BART!

Shalom~

Believe me, in San Francisco The videos are the least of the problems regarding the police department.

The videos reminded me of Reno 911. The were silly but not as bad as what some SFPD officers do on the streets out here.
