Living Life Like It's Golden
Ok everyone. I got this idea from Jill Scott's song. How are you living your life like it's golden? What could you do to achieve that?
I need to go away and think myself....

Hmmm what exactly does golden mean?
I really haven't heard the song that much.

Good question.
I'm kinda in a "slump" right now, but what I'm planning to do is to start thinking more about ME! I'm going to start pampering myself more, stop having pity parties, and start to make opportunities happen by having a more positive outlook on life.

I am quitting my job and going to school full-time to help me for a change!
I am eating healthier.
Dressing younger.
Loving myself more. Literally.
The older I get I realize I am my own worse enemy. I could be very wealthy right now, but I hinder myself. So, I am shedding my old skin and developing good habits to live life by. In life we get so caught up in the have nots and not realize that we really do have what it takes to live life it truly is---golden.
BTW can non-greeks post a thread topic?

I think Jilly from Philly means the following when she says "golden:
-Of the greatest value or importance; precious.
-Marked by peace, prosperity, and often creativeness: a golden era.
-Very favorable or advantageous; excellent: a golden opportunity.
-Having a promising future; seemingly assured of success: a golden generation.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With that being said, I think I am living my life like it is bronze. I say to myself all of the time that I am holding back. I always feel like I could do more or better.

Nice defs Futurestar1,
I couldn't have said it better myself.
Life is golden; we just forget sometimes.
I am not currently living my life like it's golden. I'm probably somewhere btwn bronze and silver myself. I plan to move in the near future to a city with lots more sunshine and warm weather (Los Angeles), which I love (after all, I am SUMMERChild ). I plan to stop sitting at home and sleeping so much and doing activities in the evenings and weekends to stretch my days and life out some. I plan to take better care of myself. I think that I may take that trip to Italy that I've wanted to do for a few years now.

Now that sounds golden, as a step towards this I plan to purge my environment of unwanted and unneeded items, take a real vacation this summer, pray more frequently, and journal more consistently. My journals have been my saving grace for almost a decade.

I have really been concerned with living my life like it is golden for some time now (I have been a little down and out lately! ) But I have been doing some different things lately, like meeting new people and stepping outside of my box. I recently joined the Praise Dance team at my church, I try to go to Art Museums and see new cultural things around my city and I even went to a STL Cardinals game last week. (which is very different for me) I have also been reading and journaling a lot! I am currently reading The Purpose Driven Life and I just finished No More Sheets by Juanita Bynum. I am not only trying to live life like it is golden BUT be a blessing for anyone and everyone!!

 I get it!
I have realized that life is to short to constantly feel the pressure of conforming to this ideal woman we envisioned ourselves at when we were 16! An immaculate, well spoken, mover-shaker, every hair in place, huge(clean) home, perfect kids, perfect husband, financially ballin', career, sexy, domestic, independent, great cooking, in shape, goddess!!!
So I aspire to be the best at those categories not perfect in those categories. STOP COMPARING YOURSELF TO HER AND HER!!!
I hired a maid....best move in a while!!
Have decided to take more trips!
Do things for me more often.
Spend my money on the 80/10/10 plan. 80% operates my life, I pay myself 10%, and 10% goes to God! I want to have nice things and I do, but Gods time is a better time.
I realize I am 27, own a nice home, have 2 beautiful kids, a good job, a nice shape, a good husband, belief in God. Why should I ever not feel golden? Why as women do we allow ourselves to feel anything but Golden?

I've learned to put my priorities first for a change Taking small baby steps everyday to reach my goals, Stop complaining and do something about my situation if I am dissatisfied. Keep the faith, Put God in all I do. Persevere and not give up, for one day things will go your way if you just keep at it! I now have a better job situation, and am moving on with my life! Hallelujah!

I do what I want to do. I go where I want to go, when I want to go there.
When I'm "gone", my peeps will say that life owed me not.

Nice thread topic
Well, I've already started by improving my eating habits. I make better choices that aren't perfect every single hour of the day, but I do my best at most times. I'm also working out at least four days a week. I'm even training for the Peachtree Road Race on the 4th of July. Exercise is a great way to cleanse yourself and feel better. Overall, I'm taking time out for me and my personal goals and wellness, not just trying to impress people.
Next on the agenda: getting ready to teach 9th Grade English. I've been talking about teaching for four years, and I'm finally on my way. The teachers I know always complain about their pay, but a teacher's pay would be a very nice step up from where I am now. This is the beginning of the next stage of my life, and I can't wait for it to start.
One of the perks of this new life: I'll have more money for traveling like I want to. I just returned from the Virgin Islands for our 55th Regional Conference, and it was wonderful being outside of Atlanta. I am going to get out more often, even if it's just me. But first, I'll visit several friends, family members, and/or sorors in other cities and states.

I finally stopped procrasinating about starting my own business and finally just did it. No waiting, no fears, just me and my company.
I've cut certain people out of my life who liablities instead of assets. Sometimes, youhave to let go in order to receive your blessings.
I've gotten back into church. I was pressured for awhile from family but one day I went and my soul opened up.
I finally started to date a good, God-fearing man who loves me and wants to marry me. (I haven't said yes yet)
I finally started living my life for me. So what I like to play and dance in the rain, so what I like to walk around barefoot outside, so what I speak to strangers if they look like their having bad day but you can't say you don't see my smile from the inside out.

I'm taking small steps to actually enjoying my independence although lonely at times it will pass.
Making plans to busy myself by obtaining Microsoft certifications, preparing for the GMAT and loving myself.
