Eczema Sufferers

My 22 month old daughter suffers from a severe case of eczema but nothing seems to work. The itching that is accompanied by it is unbareable. She itches to the point of bleeding; especially during bath time. Everynight she awakes scratching from head-to-toe.

These are the products in which she as used or still is using.

1) Flocinolone 0.25 mg
2) Elidel 1%
3) DiFlorasone diacetate 0.05%
4) Triple Paste
5) Aveeno Baby - Soothing Relief Moisture Cream
6) Black Soap w/Shea Butter (Nubian Heritage)
7) Oats/Aloe Cream (Nubian Heritage)
8) Raw Shea Butter

I'm really frustrated and all out of ideas. I've been doing some research and I see "Evening Primose" 500 mg is good to use on the skin. I also read that "Sulphur" is good for itching.
These are the products in which she as used or still is using.

She is going to see yet another dermatologist in a week, but I'm not really comfortable with using steroids at such a young age.

If anyone had eczema as a child or has a child with eczema, what is your remedy? "Homeopathic" preferrably.

Thanks.

Increasing Omega 3 fatty acid (high in salmon and flaxseeds) intake might help, but I don't know how a 22-month-old may handle it.

I forgot to mention she's allergic to ALL seafood and Cow's Milk. Since I'm a Salmon lover, I fed it to her one day - it wasn't a pretty sight.

I just started to use Elidel after over the counter cortizone didn't work. The eczema seems to be clearing up. The doctor told me to stop washing my hands unless the are visibly dirty. I also take quick lukewarm showers instead of long hot showers.

I discovered I need to stay away from things made from acrylic, rubber, and plastic since they irritate my skin. I wear cotton gloves when I sleep so I don't scratch myself. Check out the elidel website for some tips. Best wishes to you and your daughter.

ETA: My eczema is only on my hands and fingers.

Edited again to add the website URL about preventing itchy skin:

My daughter had very bad eczema on her cheeks when she was a baby. I know you're looking for homeopathic, but topical steroids prescribed by her pediatrician is what cleared it up (I can't remember which one - it's been 10 yrs). This summer, her eczema flared up on the inside of her arms. Mind you - Cortaid didn't work, or Elidel, so our Dr. Prescribed Locoid, which is expensive, but worked. She is also allergic to almost everything and is asthmatic. We also have used the Black Soap and Raw Shea Butter - excellent for the rest of the body, didn't work on the eczema areas (I have it also).

Good luck in finding something that works for your baby - I hope she feels better.

I guess you could consider this eczema, but I'm really allergic to nickle. Where my jeans' button touches my skin gets exactly like you described. Also if I wear fake jewelry I break out. Over the counter I use Gold Bond, or if it's kinda bad I soak in an oatmeal bath. Aveno offers a pretty good oatmeal soak. Otherwise whenever I've gone to the doctor, I just get some prescription ointment cream that was like dirty cheap and worked wonders.

When my nephew went through the eczema phase as a baby, along with doctor prescribed topicals. a over the counter moisturizer product called Eucerin was used too.

I had it as a baby. I dont know what my mom used, but I grew out of it eventually. Hang in there. You'll find a solution eventually...

skin disorders

i am so sorry that your daughter is suffering so. if she does not outgrow this(and i sure hope that she does) elidel might be something to try-however, there have been contraindications of use in very young children and some serious side-effects, so elidel would not be an option for you now.

I have had eczema all of my life, so I can tell you a little of what works for me.

Keep the skin hydrated. Eucerine is a god-send for my skin. Nothing else - even Vasoline - has not worked as well.

Do not use dryer sheets. I've had some bad reactions to the lanolin on them.

Watch bathtime. Don't keep her in the water too long, as the skin dries out horribly. When you do bathe her, trying using an Oatmeal bath (Aveeno).

Don't tell the child not to scratch. Yes, scratching hurts the skin even more, but it really frustrated me when people told me that. I mean, do you think I'd be tearing my skin open if I wasn't itchy?.

Find out if her eczema is caused by food triggers. I lived on soy milk for years, and couldn't eat chocolate until I was 15. I've grown out of most of the food allergy portion of exczema.

I'm using a couple of topical creams right now and taking a couple of perscriptions orally, and my skin is looking pretty good. I know steroids and young children is a scary proposition; talk to your dermatologist to see what she/he recommends. I went to 3 or 4 dermatologists until I found one that understands eczema, as not every dermatologist can treat eczema well.

If you want to know anything else, feel free to p/m me, and I can go into more detail.
