Torn Rotator Cuff??

Have any of you had a torn rotator cuff?? If so, how did you find out? What were your symptoms. I think I may have this problem in my right shoulder and have decided if the pain does not go away by Friday I am going to the doctor

Can speak from experience! Lifting arm, shoulder hurts.

It can be torn slightly and can easily be fixed by orthascopy surgery.

Mine was torn according to MRI but when the doctor got in it was ripped apart. Still sore from surgery Aug. 9 th. But is fully mobil.
Get to a Dr. as soon as can as can only get worse if let it go to long!

Not fun at all, had arm in sling for a month had to keep imobile the whole time and therapy.

Get it checked soon!

Best of luck on it!

I feel for you...

Tom is right...if you try to lift your arm in any direction and feel pain, and that can range from mild throbbing to shooting pain, you likely have a torn rotator cuff. Go see a doctor immediately. The longer that you wait to check this out, the longer the recovery time is going to be.

Take care of yourself, and remember if you do have to have surgery (heaven forbid) you get to be a spoiled princess for at least a week after.

Constant shoulder pain is a good indicator of rotator cuff troubles. Hopefully this is not what you have. I injured mine earlier in the year and though its feeling much better, its taken months and months of therapy.

But woke just a little sore! Good sign!

Hope if that is what it is, you get onto it asap!

Find a good surgeon as makes a big diff!

Mom did that!!

My mom had a torn rotator cuff and had surgery last summer. She works in a school cafe and tore hers (we are assuming, she only went to the doc after it hurt for like a YEAR!!)by lifting a case of something over her head. A bone spur in there complicated things.

She had outpatient surgery (not orthoscopic) and had her arm immobilized for one month. After the first week, she could take it out of the brace while sitting, but she could NOT use it. . .she had to move it around with her other hand. (I hear that underarm shaving and bra wearing were INTERESTING!!)Anyway, a month later she started therapy, and did so well she was released from the doctor's care and therapy a full 2 months early. No problems now, but she makes SURE she doesn't lift anything over her head anymore.

The secret to her success was a very attentive husband who learned the therapy exercises and MADE her do them EVERY NIGHT. Whether or not you have surgery, the exercises are what makes it or breaks it!!!

Let us know how it goes!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

Well I went to the doctor on Monday and he said that it is definitely my rotator cuff. He gave a some anti-inflammatory medication and some pain killers and told me to come back when I am done taking the meds. If the pain doesn't go away he is going to send me for further testing.

I had cortisone shots in mine when it flared up for the third time. That was in Feb 04 and so far, so good.

I have to go back in two weeks. We'll see if the drugs work this time like they did last time.

I woke up one morning and mine hurt, my Dr sent me for an MRI and it turns out I tore two of the tendons in my right shoulder!

I actually had my surgery to repair the tear on Tuesday and well it has been interesting. Thank goodness my mother has a heart of gold and doesn't mind cutting up my food, tyiing my shoes, or putting my hair in a ponytail. She also has no issues with me going out in public in yoga pants *lol*

PM me if you have any questions or want to know more... I have been waiting since July to have surgery

Injuries like that are NOT fun! My husband is recovering from what we originally thought was a torn tendon in his left bicep. The surgeon cut him open and found that he'd torn his bicep muscle in FOUR places. It has been a long few months with a toddler, being pregnant, and having the other 'baby' to take care of! I always say to get things checked out, because you NEVER know. I've also learned persistence. If you don't like what the doctor is telling you, or it's not working, tell him or go somewhere else!

For me it was 8 weeks post trauma that my inflimation started, saw my family Dr, went for x-rays, nothing, hurt worse, went for a MRI, Found the tears, scheduled an appointment with a surgeon, at the appointment he didn't like the way I presented so he sent me to a neurologist, had an EMG, back to the surgeon, 8 days before surgery he sends me out for a second opinion, 2nd surgeon is also confused, so he sends me to PT, finally I have surgery....

I got new pain meds yesterday... so I feel a little better and I'm kinda of sleeping now too!

I have tons of help! My mom came to stay with me... nothing like being 23 and having your mom tie your shoes and put your hair in a ponytail!
