Social ideas?

Hey girls! I had a question. You see, on my campus we go by Panhel rules of not being allowed to have big/lil brothers. Unfortunately, one of the sororities breaks this rule. We only have 2 social fraternities, and one engineering. There are 3 social sororities, and 1 engineering. The other sorority, XYZ we'll call them, are so much closer to the bigger fraternity that we're mostly friends with. I was talking to one of the guys today about how they show much XYZ love, but we hardly get any even tho we're all friends. So do you guys have any ideas of fun mixers that could maybe bring us closer to them? We're bored of bowling, pool, stuff like that. Also, how do your chapters have big/lil brothers? Is that against Phi Mu rules? or is it just by campus. Total at our school is 45, and we have about 30 right now (due to graduation and transfers). Any ideas would be great!

we don't have big/lil bros...but i think that's just not a big thing on our campus. We're going to a baseball game for one of our exchanges next semester...hows your bar scene? We did a lot of theme mixers...including "white trash"...it was really funny to see everyone dressed to theme for that! everyone totally had a fun time!

The guys do have a White Trash Trailor Bash party for the whole campus. Going to a baseball would be kind of cool tho.

Themes prolly wouldn't work with our numbers being lower than usual "away" campuses. We're a commuter campus. Plus some of the guys, god forbid they dress up.

My school which is Florida International University is also a commuter school and the organizations down here are not as big as in other schools even so we have 6 sororities and 10 fraternities on campus but here are some of the best mixers themes that Ive been to that everyone has loved are a Luau with Sigma Alpha Mu and a " Color Me Wild" with Sigep which basically is that everyone has to be dressed in shorts and tshirt and then u have many colors of finger paint and everyone gets crazy with the paint. BUT to do this u have to do it on a backyard =) is tons of fun and with music even better. I hope this helps you out a lil.

Phi Mu does not let us have pledge dads anymore, but I think those rules are specific to our chapter. How do you make boys love you? Let's see...

Do you have a Mu Man or some other type of sweetheart? This is always good for PR, and you should always, in my opinion, pick a frat boy. Your pledge class can also have a sweetheart if they like.

Other things you can try:

1. Put an ad in the student paper the day of a mixer to say how much you are looking forward to it, or one the day after to say how much fun you had.

2. Take them little gifts for halloween, christmas, and valentine's day. The standard on our campus is cookie cakes decorated in their colors, but boys are suckers for any type of food. Bring it over during dinner so they will all see it.

3. Chalk their sidewalk with "Phi Mu loves (insert frat name here).

4. Offer to help them in any way possible for rush events.

5. Cook them breakfast before a football game.

6. Have pledge dads, and don't tell Nationals (but that wasn't my idea!)

7. Send them greeting cards congratulating them on their awesome new pledge class, wishing luck on finals, welcoming them back to campus, etc.

Let me just say, however, that you should do these things for all the fraternities on your campus. The best PR you can have is to be known as nice girls to everyone. You never know what guy in one of the smaller frats might have a sister who is rushing, and you always want them to say how awesome the Phi Mu's are.

What do the boys do for XYZ that they don't do for you?

Suggest pairing up with them for a philanthropy event. Working with them will show them how awesome you girls are. They will think much more highly of you than if you were just partying.
