MOSS POINT - J.P. Presley knew there were young men who would be willing to help Katrina victims unable to help themselves.
Presley, owner of J.P. Presley Homes, called his younger fraternity brothers of Kappa Sigma at Mississippi State University in Starkville. He thought helping residents in Jackson County would be a good service project for them.
Presley is looking for residents who need help gutting and cleaning their flood-damaged homes.
"We intended it for them to work with people that didn't have flood insurance and don't have means to take care of themselves," Presley said.
He said a lot of work will be needed to keep 70 young college men working all day Saturday and part of Sunday in Pascagoula and Moss Point.
Will Compton, community service chairman, said the Kappa Sigma members will provide their own transportation and bring their own tools, some they purchased and others donated by Bell Building Supply in Starkville.
"A bunch of our guys have worked in construction all their lives, so they know all about this," Thompson. "And a bunch of our guys are in engineering."
Presley and Thompson said Kappa Sigma includes members, ages 18 to 22, from Mississippi cities such as Pascagoula, Moss Point, Gautier, Gulfport, Biloxi and Pass Christian.
They will camp out at Presley's Outing, where the Young Men's Business Club in Moss Point will cook shrimp and fish for them on Saturday night.
