Winthrop's IFC is Expanding!

They've invited three groups to present, Delta Chi, Chi Phi and Pi Kappa Phi. Pi Kapp presented tonight and was the last of the three to go. They had a chapter there for some time, but it closed in '96 I believe.

Currently, they have Kappa Sigma (one of my friends from HS was a brother in this chapter, and a former neighbor was as well), Pi Kappa Alpha and Tau Kappa Epsilon. If you remember, about a year ago (or so) SAE was kicked off campus.

The NPC groups include Zeta Tau Alpha, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Delta Zeta, Alpha Delta Pi and Chi Omega.
Here's a link to their Greek Life page.

I'll update if I hear any news. A decision is expected next week.

This is great news! I went to Winthrop and kind of hoped they reopen Sigma Nu (no offense to the other fraternities that presented). They closed in 2000 due to low membership and low recruiting numbers. The Sigma Nus I knew at Winthrop were great guys so you guys did represent well as upstanding men.

Congratulations to those who are presenting.

Even though I went to Winthrop, all I have is the website to rely on and they're rather slow in updating. With that said, does anyone who lives up there or anything know who was picked?

I am guessing it might be Pi Kappa Phi or Delta Chi.

It seems that lately we've been focusing on larger schools. I really wish our expansion/recolonization efforts would be more aggressive. They did fortunately retool the expansion process since my chapter was a party to it a few years ago -- that has been a good thing from what I can tell.

If Winthrop wants to expand again, KTSnake just tell Sigma Nu to try to present at Winthrop. I'll be on your side!

Yeah, because they always do exactly what I tell them to do

Seriously though, I think they're focusing on SEC-type schools at the moment -- appeasing the big-money folks first. It makes sense. As a southern-styled fraternity, there's no excuse not to be at the SEC schools.

Okay, this is by no means official info.

From what I heard, all three groups have been asked to colonize over the next few years. Chi Phi is supposed to go first, then Delta Chi, then Pi Kapp (I believe -- I know Pi Kapp was asked to go third).

Sorry, that's all I got.
