Welcome to the GreekChat Lambda Chi Alpha boards, Brynnen.
Not in any particular order:
1. Make sure the college you are attending has an active chapter there.
2. Be yourself
3. Make your grades the semester you associate.
4. Check out LCA's national website:
www.lambdachi.org
5. Really touch that friend's heart tonight with your post on GC.
Brothers, I am that friend that Brynnen is speaking of. I worked with Brynnen at the theater. Brynnen is one great guy that I think will make a great brother some day.

Well if you're endorsing him, he's in trouble. Just kidding.
I'd say that the things you should know are:
Be yourself, be honest about yourself, and be honest to yourself.
If I've learned anything watching people rush houses, Lambda Chi included, it is that those who "act" for rush, wind up un-happy.
Joining any fraternity is what you make of it. I believe that Lambda Chi offers particular oportunites, both nationally and at each chapter. Rush, join, and go into your Assosciate Member semester with an open mind and a dedicated mind.
Good Luck with rush, and I hope you have as wonderful an experience as I did.
Where will you be going to college?

im not sure exactly where yet...but im deffinetly considering Universtiy of Tennessee Chattanooga since i know several people who already go to school there. Im also looking to UTK and MTSU. Those are the most realistic possibilities for me right now because a) they are in my price range. b) ive heard the film departments are pretty good. and c) they arent too far from home. I would really like to study film production at either NYU or UCLA but both of those are fairly unrealistic due to the fact that they are extremly expensive and film scholarships are rare and my first 3 years in highschool I didnt study as much as i should have and now Im in a tight spot.

MTSU does not have a chapter of LCA.
Vanderbilt does have a good chapter there and a good Film Studies major but not film production.

First and foremost, be yourself. The guys that don't come across as genuine have more of a chance of being passed over in consideration. Get to know the brothers, if the brothers get to know you they will remember you when it comes time to vote on association. The dreaded "Who is that guy?" when it comes time to extend a bid of association, is an unfortunate thing.
Out of curiosity, what school will you be attending?

First off, welcome to G C and Your interest in LXA.
Brynnen, I can only Echo what each Brother has said. I will not belabor that though.
Roy is a Brother with the same drive as many of us do including Me for LXA. Since You and He have the same interests, I would say Roy is and will be a great Mentor for you if you so choose.
I have been doing this for 40 Years and I think I am the Senior Brother on G C LXA Thread. If I did not feel it was worth it, I would not still be doing it and Active in My Chapter. I have been a LXA for 2/3rds of My live and am damn proud. (NO SMART REMARKS)!
It is an experience of a Life Time and one to never to be forgotten. But, it depends on what you put into it and what you get out of it.
Schools that you mentioned whether close or far is You choice. Today, $$$ is a main factor. But remember, when you go to a College, Your first 1-2 years will be General. Then you can look for Grants or Scholerships.
It will be a lot on Your plate as A Young Man going into a new adventure. Use a good Mentor as I am sure Roy would be and if any questions, please call on any of us.

It's easy really. Be yourself, be confident.
Go to some events, get to know some guys. Talk and ask questions.
See if it is something you like. If you have the commitment and like the guys in the chapter.
If you feel comfortable, then go for it. Sure alot of guys talk up nationals, and they are right, we are awesome.
But you will be spending 99% of your time as a brother with your chapter. So although you may fit in to the national fraternity, it is just as important to get to know your chapter and find out more about it.
