The Four-Legged Victims

A lot of people were forced to leave their pets behind. This is truly sad because pets are completely dependent on their "humans" for support. They don't understand the emergency, they just feel abandoned.

Please consider making a donation to the SPCA or the Humane Society of the US. The Humane Society is selling a "Cause Collar" (kind of like the message bracelets). Proceeds will go to support animal rescue efforts in the affected region.

For more, see: https://gateway.hsus.org/hsusdev/

Edited to add: watch this video of HSUS volunteers rescuing an abandoned dog. I started crying when the dog wagged his tail at the end: http://stream.realimpact.net/?file=r...rescue9-7.rmvb

This wiki is a good comprehensive resource for Katrina information, including volunteer opportunities.

In addition to places where you can give donations, I wanted to post a hotline where people can try to locate family and friends lost in the Hurricane...The number is 1-888-544-5475 and is run by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in hopes of finding ALL missing people impacted by the hurricane. You call the number and give them information on your loved one, and they alert law enforcement and volunteers to look for them...Thought it was too important not to post.
