Perfection Week for Iota Theta....
...starts tonight for us!
I'm getting butterflies in my stomach, I'm so excited but I'm so freakin' terrified too. Last year wore me out. I was an exhausted wreck after recruitment last year.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed. We met alot of girls at orientations over the summer who've shown alot of interest. We have a good possibility of at least doubling our chapter size. I dunno if any of you guys out there are religious, or whatnot - but we could really use some good spirits and some positive feel good vibes - we need all the help we can get, so keep Iota Theta in your prayers, or whatever it may be that you believe in...
First week of school is next week, the 22nd, and Recruitment starts on Monday the 29th. By Friday September 2nd, we're gonna have some awesome new girls!
I'm sending ***HUGS*** to Trish and AlphaXiGirl - they've helped me keep my sanity and what spirits I've managed to not lose over the past several weeks. (It's been a HARD couple of months for me...I'm still trying, still excited, but I reallllly dont think I can handle anymore bad news in the next few weeks. If I can make it to Labor Day it'll be easy street from there) You guys are awesome and I love you.

It's our "work week" - or, where we finalize all the details of recruitment, what to wear, what skits are gonna be done, how the rooms are gonna be set up, what songs are gonna be sang and stuff like that. "Perfecting" all the little details of the big week.

So...last night was day one....Game Day. What an interesting evening. Let me set the scene....there are 5 AZD's and 7 for the other NPC, a smattering of alumna from both groups.....no letters....everyone was "supposed to be" anonymous!
and 16 PNM'S!!!!!!! OMG!!!
In a year and a half, I have NEVER seen so many women on that campus....ever! Even the active members of both groups were shocked by the number of girls. Amazing! Can we say tons of summer PR paid off???
Everyone talked, ate, played pool, and ping pong. I was actually envious of the 10 person pingpong game (3 tables together and mutliple balls going at once). It totally looked fun!
Couple of observations....
1. never ever never group your whole chapter and take them out of the room to take pictures while a recruitment event is going on!!! (That wasn't us!!!) I'm mean, thanks for the extra few minutes to talk to the PNM's by ourselves so we can have their undivided attention, but huh? Why would you do that????
2. Dear other NPC advisor, why would you let 3 of your 7 actives sit their and talk to you throughout most of the party? You just allowed us (thanks) to have a numbers edge! Why didn't you encourage them to speak to the PNM's throughout the whole party?? Not making sense!!!
Craziness! Since we have, like, NO rules it is amazing the things people are getting away with that would cause a Panhellenic meltdown at other schools. How about 3 PNM's put the other NPC on their application for college activities! So much for promoting going Greek versus your sorority.
Ok, enough for today!

Day Two
Soooo.....10 PNM's showed up for the actual parties. That's still 4 more than last year and last night was a big night for classes. Hopefully a couple more might show up tonight.
Parties were crazy! They took a trip to the Sorority Keys.....The skit was the SS Alpha Xi and I have to admit was cuter than I expected. I apparently have a few actresses in the chapter! The sweetest thing is you could see them all start blushing when it was their time to speak! How cute!!
The other NPC had a slide show with what I assume were some funny pics considering the laughter coming from that room! They had a black light and streamers. I have to admit, they upped their game from last year at the first recruitment.
The Chapter had some first day butterflies and stumbles....but those will work out. I had a request for "real" food as a morale booster after the parties last night. I guess chicken fingers are going to have to suffice as "real" food this evening! Ha! Maybe I can drop by Wendy's and get some salad and backed potatoes too...hummmm.....
Ok, don't know if you guys are finding this stuff interesting.....but it's been a great release for me! Hope you don't mind the details!

Oh man.....Preference tonight...Excited and terrified at the same time. We're probably going to have 2 parties, as we've done all week, and I know who I'm going to be preffing. One of the girls is my "rush crush" - I know we aint 'spossed to use that word, but anyway - and I'm not too worried about her. I'm still working on my preference letter and/or note cards so that i can remember to say everythign i want to tell her. The other girl I've been informed that I'll be preffing...I dunno, I'm nervous about her. I havent talked to her that much. I had her last night, and she was sick, but she was....weird. Almost rude. I personally did not have a good feeling about her. But I guess this is where the whole "trust you sisters" thing comes into play cause everyone else who has talked to her likes her and said "she was probably just in a funk cause she was sick..." but I dont know if I have what it takes to pref her. Sick or not, I almost sensed a personality clash. She wouldnt talk, she didnt have any questions, she was not very responsive to me....and I'm supposed to pref her because supposedly I have what it takes to make her jump to our side of the fence rather than going with the other group.
My advisor and pres are expecting a miracle outta me....
I'm just extremely nervous. Preffing terrrrrrrifies me. I'm not worried about my rush crush, but at the same time, I want to give her goosebumps and just reinforce that this is right and this is where she needs to be. This other girl...I dunno. I just hope she is feeling better and is a hella lot more responsive to me today than she was yesterday. I hope I can get my thoughts out and what i need to say and what experiences I need to tell her about and that i can hold her attention...
Good lord, and I have another year of this...well, almost 2 down, and only 1 more to go.
And let me just say that our alumni rock, and they are so supportive and we love them. And what's even better is one of them is gonna be playing the harp for us again this year! (For you auburn folks, its bevlynn and she ROCKS! I love my financial advisor!)
WAHHH!!! Butterflies! This is gonna be good..reiterating my first post....Iota Theta needs some feel good vibes right now. Thanks for y'alls support and encouragement.

No miracles....just faith and confidence in your abilities. If it works then fantastic, if not then the chapter knows that you have done your very best and that's all that can be asked of you.
Keep smiling and relax!!!! Think Jill! HAHAHA!!!

Day Three
Last night was philanthropy and the chapter was on their game! Yea!!!! They had great conversations, good eye contact, engaging the PNM's! Couldn't have asked for anything more...ok, except for maybe not allowing the alumna to make the cool-aid anymore. It was a wee bit bitter!! Eww! HAHAHA!
12 PNM's showed up....class scheduling wasn't an issue. 6 per party.....the philanthropy project was awesome!!! Basically BetXi bear narrates each page of a coloring book for kids about 2 years old. On each page it says something like "BetXi bear says the rectangle is green." Actually it's much cuter than that, but you get the picture. Then there is a big rectangle and kid is supposed to color in the shape. The PNM's basically put the book together. The chapter sponsor one daycare (medically fragile children) and so these will go to them. Yes, the philanthropy project actually makes it to the location! Amazing!!
Anyway, tonight is pref as Amanda pointed out. I currently have lattice hanging out the back of my car and am visiting Costco for roses and perhaps gasoline. If you haven't heard Atlantan's went psycho about gas yesterday and by the time I was able to visit a gas station at midnight....NO GAS and I live in the sticks!! Lovely. Got a 1/4 tank for now.....gotta make it stretch.....lets see...time to skimp on the A/C (ok....after the parties!).
Check in tomorrow....or very late tonight!
-Trish
