U of Texas-Austin
What are the best sororities at UT? Please no bashing any sorority. I'd just like to know which ones are highly thought of and are sought after the most.

Why do you ask? Don't you want to form your own opinion of them as opposed to asking for ours?
My answer: Form your OWN opinions.

Well
My sister has a friend who is going to UT next year and is probably going to rush. I myself went to the University of Arkansas. I was just wondering about the greek life there I was curious.
I do believe you should form your own opinions but I will not be attending there so was looking for input here. That's all.

ARalum, your question has been asked and answered a few times before on GreekChat. Supposedly -- and I stress "supposedly" -- Texas at Austin has a well-known grouping referred to as the "Big Six" NPC sororities. One poster, as I recall, said that at present it may actually be a "Big Seven." The "Big Six" are named in a post dated 4-16-2003 in a "Rush" forum thread entitled "Why Is Rush so Cut-throat on the Sororities' End at Big Greek Schools?" Several other posts have indicated that all the NPC chapters at Texas are good. I agree with the people who have said it's important for a PNM to make up her own mind.
From what's been posted about Texas at Austin, I get the strong impression that for most PNMs, going ginto recruitment with your heart set on the "Big Six" would be setting yourself up for disappointment.

Each organization is special and has something unique to offer people. Have your friend do her research and come into rush with an open mind. Also have her start looking for recommendation early.
Well if she is looking into the NPHC arena
Alpha Kappa Alpha
Delta Sigma Theta
Sigma Gamma Rho
Zeta Phi Beta
If she is looking in the APHC arena
alpha Kappa Delta Phi
Kappa Phi Gamma
Sigma Phi Omega Sorority, Inc.
If she is looking into the UGC arena
Kappa Delta Chi
Sigma Delta Lambda
Sigma Lambda Gamma
If she is looking into the NPC arena
Alpha Chi Omega
Alpha Delta Pi
Alpha Epsilon Phi
Alpha Phi
Alpha Xi Delta
Chi Omega
Delta Delta Delta
Delta Gamma
Kappa Alpha Theta
Kappa Delta
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Pi Beta Phi
Sigma Delta Tau
Zeta Tau Alpha

I think the most important thing is the fact that UT has got an incredible greek system! It doesn't matter which chapter you pledge, they are all VERY good!
There has been alot of problems in the past asking the "which chapters are the best" question. I honestly think that it is not something that needs to be answered, especially in the middle of recruitment. Different chapters are for different people. *Personal opinion*
I would rather not see this question answered- it will only cause problems.

Well for sororities it's definitely Delta Omicron Gamma. I have a friend that pledged there and loved it. For guys, she said that Kappa Omega Kappa was the hottest frat.

I did not mean to ruffle anyones feathers. It was just a question that I was looking for a few opinions on. I know people can be catty about other peoples letters (I'm not that far removed from my college days).
I could not find the "Big Six" thread but thanks for pointing it out anyway.

The thing is that it's tough to say objectively who is the best. Whoever has the most members, the biggest house, the indoor swimming pool, etc. may not be the best for an individual.
Also, just consider yourself warned. These threads are kind of a faux-pas on this BBS.
