New Member stuff

Hey ladies! First off thanks for reading this!

I have a few questions and I thought maybe you all could help. I'm the asst. nmoc.... and we are trying to help our new members learn all the material, but I really do not think that all of them are learning things. Is there any way that your nmoc helped you learn stuff like the founders and symphony that was fun and helped you? Any games or anything like that??

Also, for "Insipration" Week we are trying to make it so the new members want to spend more time at the house... so we are trying to plan activities for them. Any ideas?? We do the usual movie night, OC night etc... but we wanted something different and fun!

Thanks soo much for your help!!

TFJ and LITBOS!
Samantha

Well one time one of the actives (not the NMOC) offered $10 to the girl or girls that learned the symphony and the founders. It was kinda fun to see the girls trying to learn it for $10.

Sometimes during finals, "Cora" would stick invitations in the mailboxes inviting everyone to a midnight margarita party (non-alcholic of course) to be held in the dining room... That was always a fun study break, but you could totally do something similar to encourage girls to come to the house - it's the invitation part that really makes it kinda special.

I started asking trivia questions at the end of meeting every week. The first person to answer got a "reward." They were never very expensive but something they wanted----like iron on letters, a rose candle or some knick-knack with letters. Once they realised what was happening, they started working to learn the information and came every week to see what the question was. Even the initiated members wanted to particiate and so we did a separate one for them----helped them brush up on their knowledge too!

As for Inspiration Week, our bigs gave us something every day. One day it had to do with pink roses, the next bears, then our colors, the symphony, the quilll, the crest, etc. We had to go to the house each day to get them, there wasn't any way to get them otherwise. Once we were there, there were always sisters doing things together or went out for pizza, etc. People were creative and it was amazing to see all the things from day to day--and you couldn't take them home until after initiation! All that was considered your initiation gift from your big and she of course could give you something on the big day too. One of the ideas I liked was the charm bracelet given. There was of course the bracelet and every day a charm with one of the symbols. The last charm was one engraved with the initiation date. As beautiful as it turned out, it was the notes that went along with the charms each day that meant the most.

we played Alpha Xi Jeopardy one year. That was so popular we carried it over to Greek Week and made it Greek Jeopardy, which we kicked butt in b/c of our Alpha Xi Jeopardy.
