Let's brag about our pets

I have an 8 year old Meyer's Parrot named Alex. She follows me around the house like a dog (I let her out of her cage whenever I'm home) and she talks. She knows what she's saying, because she will only say "Hi" when she first sees me.. and she says "Yum!" only when I give her a grape (which is her favorite food).

She does a perfect imitation of the squeeky sound my Swiffer makes when I mop the floor, and can make a zipper sound of my luggage. All I have to do is take my luggage out of the closet and she will go, "zzzzzzzzipppppp!"

I also have six (how many do you want?) Australian zebra finches. I started out with a pair... and... well.... you know the rest!

Pretty!

You saw my baby on the other thread. I got him last year from a shelter.

He eats dandelions and is crazy for banana chips. He has the run of the house but stays mainly on the carpeted living areas and the stairs. He uses a litter box and cleans himself like a cat but he'll sit up and beg for treats like a dog. He wears a collar with a bell because otherwise he is so quiet I can't find him unless it is treat time. He makes a little growling noise when I don't give him a treat fast enough and a big growl if he gets mad.

He loves being outside so I occasionally put him in a harness and attach the leash...if I can catch him.

We got our fifteen minutes of fame but didn't win a vacuum cleaner. Oh, well.

Lucky's story

I have A.J. Bear, who is my 12 year old bichon frise. He is my baby boy, and he goes everywhere with me in the summer (when I am not teaching). I never understood people who became sooooo attached to their pets, but now I am one. I will have to get a new picture of him to post.

This is my sweet boy BowTie. I adopted him when he was 5 months, I was told he is a Collie/German Shephard mix. But from being around him and having friends notice, it's Sheltie not Collie. About a week after I adoted him, he got really sick, had numberous vet visits and had a second opinion on vacation at my mom's and changed vets when I got home. Was told it was probably distemper from the original vet, he could never give me a straight answer, but come to find out it was just a bad cold. He is now 1year and 2 months and precious as ever!

Baby Picture!

Messy Dog!

I think I've fallen in love with BowTie! What a face!!! Did you get him at a shelter? (I love rescue animal stories).

My mom has two rescued racing greyhounds.

I have a 3-year-old rat terrier named Conan. He's the cutest, most affectionate dog in the whole planet (IMHO! ). He's a terrier so he's extremely hyper. He's constantly running around and playing. He can jump all the way up to my chest. My parents were taken aback by how hyper he is when they first met him but I wouldn't have it any other way. It's not a pet unless it basically screams to you, "I'm here!!! Pay attention to me!!!"

I'll post a picture of him as soon as I can get him to sit still long enough to take one!

ETA: I got the digital camera ready and bribed him with a Beggin' Strip! Here's my little angel:

Well, I have:

3 pugs: Simon (adopted), Puddle, and Buddy (adopted)

and Maggie, our 1/2 Black lab 1/2 Siberian Husky mix (adopted).

Technically, I also have a rottie mix (Baby), 2 beagle mixes (Ramsey and Shandy), a Golden Retriever (Candace), and a JRT/PRT (Andy). They are my family's rescues that live at one of our grooming/boarding facilities.

In the next 10-20 years, I will be getting a Rottie (just 'cause I love the breed), a Standard Poodle (so I can always have a poodle in coat for grooming competitions), a Giant Schnauzer (same reason), and an Airedale Terrier (same reason)...

Can you have a bird? They're really wonderful pets, and you do bond with them as you would a dog. But, you have to do your research... there is a lot to bird care that you need to know before taking one in to your home. And you need to find the right breed for your situation. A parakeet is always a very good "starter bird"-- or a cockatiel. But-- read, read, read before you decide. And if you do, I can help you. I've had birds for most of my life and also run a bird forum.

Meet my "child" - Winston

Here he is...my bully - Winston. He is such a nut. He loves to play with his oversized tennis ball, especially in the apartment. He will get under the covers at night, and if I don't let him in. He sits back, puts on his pity face and whines. Drives the bf NUTS!

Can someone help me out here? I can post a link, but not the actual picture....
