School Greek Avisor, How Bad?
How can The School Greek Advisor also be Advisor of The IFC and The PanHel?
She is a Member of a Sorority that is no longer there, does not want to add to the 3 Sororitys that are there when at one time time there were 5.
Wants to make parity with Fraternitys to Sororitys and there are 6 Fraternitys. She wants to get rid of at least 3.
Am I missing something here.
Lied to My IHQ about at least 2 things that I caught and called it to IHQs attention.
I talked to another Fraternity and Our Advisor today and none of use really like Her.
Her own agenda seems to be Her main thing.
I do have the right to vent!!!!!!

I agree with you on the other points but what is wrong with the greek advisor being the advisor for IFC and Panhellenic? I thought that was the norm? That's what I hear from all the schools I'm aware of.

Most of the time, that's the job description of the Greek Advisor (unless they have a Director of Greek Affairs and several coordinators under the director...the coordinators would advise the councils).

Our Greek Advisor is a member of a Panhellenic sorority and deals with IFC and NPC. She does a pretty good job of it.
Tom, just a note: While you might WANT more sororities, there are policies for NPC expansion so she can't just add chapters when she sees fit.

If there is a need for more sororities, then there should be more sororities on campus. Policies that rebut that should be changed.

There are very very VERY few schools that have parity with sororities and fraternities. If they do, it is usually forced by the school in a misguided attempt to put a limit on the number of students involved in Greek life. There are almost always more fraternities because they don't have quotas and totals.
Tom, do you know what the rush numbers have been like for women? If they're consistently large it's time to add another sorority chapter, not take fraternities away. I don't understand why she wouldn't want to do that if her group is one of the ones that would be at the top of the list to come back.

Very true. However, I would add that it isn't unusual to have the total number of sorority women equal to or often out-number the total number of fraternity men. For example. There may be 600 sorority members and 600 fraternity members total. Yet 6 sorority chapters with each membership around 100 each. And 12 fraternity chapters with around 50 members each.
The bottom line here is that a good advisor should know and understand the differences between all *types* of GLOs. Be they NPC, NIC (IFC), NPHC and any and all other conferences and or GLOs. And how they operate. As such, it may not be appropriate to have the same number of chapters - for each type - as long as the campus *need* is being met.

that sounds pretty messed up! i agree that she probably doesn't quite understand how everybody works. i do advise both IFC and Panhel. It is such at many of the smaller campuses. there just isn't enough money to hire different advisors for each of the councils.
i would definietly talk to her and figure out why she is trying to do that. maybe also talk to her supervisor (may not do too much good if the super is not current on greek topics) and contact someone from NIC and NPC. they may be able to talk some sense into her.

Ours...
Ours sucked so bad - and had things such a mess - that he's no longer in that position... I'd like to think it was a mutual decision...
Just hired a new one...

I was never a fan of ours.
He had two favorite sororities, the strongest/oldest chapter and the chapter that his wife was a recruitment consultant for (she is in a sorority that isn't on WKUs campus).
He is also a member of one of the fraternities on campus and was VERY lenient with them. As in they are a dry house nationally and I saw him at Homecoming when we were paired with them watching the guys drink out back- did I mention he is also a national board member (or at least was) of his fraternity.
It wouldn't have been so bad except he didn't know crap about the green book (I got tired of calling him out on that) and wouldnt listen to any of the chapters that needed help.
If you were his favorite- GREAT! But when you weren't you were SOL.

I think we had one solid Greek advisor while I was in school. He was always available to meet with members of the system, and in general was open to ideas on how to change things. He was a member of a fraternity that had been booted off campus, but didn't really show any favoritism. As long as you did what you were supposed to do, he helped you out where he could.
He even was able to make some friends in the school's administration, no small task at my alma mater.
However, he left for another job after I graduated and I'm not sure how well his replacement has fared.

Ours just got promoted to another job on campus. She was really nice, always returned calls and emails quickly, was *usually* in her office, even after hours. She was a member of a national sorority (DG), so she knew what was up, but Ii think she missed some of the structure of an NPC panhel/green book rules, etc. She was advisor for our IFC and Panhel. Some accused her of having favorites, but most of those accusations were made by people on the losing end of a panhel decision that was out of her hands. All in all, I liked her a lot and I thought she did a good job of keeping things organized, even rush!
I don't know who we are having this year...rumor mills have been going around saying that it's a guy, others saying it's one of the former HD's who I *think* was an Alpha Chi Omega, but I could be wrong on her affiliation.

I guess, that My main point was or should have been, Shouldnt They be concerned about Greeks on Campus and maybe if possible expanding, keeping things on an even keel within Adm. guide lines?
I am totaly unimpressed with Ours along with most of the GLOs on Campus.
To me, it is a detriment to the Greek Community.
