FIJI Closes U. of Iowa Chapter
According to the local paper, Phi Gamma Delta has closed its U. of Iowa chapter. Reportedly the chapter had been on probation and concerns following a recent party led to the fraternity's decision. Brothers who had planned to live in the house have been told to make other arrangements, according to the article:

If the article is reasonably accurate, it looks like another example of a chapter disregarding previous warnings, probations, etc. -- the "when will they learn" syndrome that has been mentioned a lot on GC.

There's been a lot of speculation as to why the chapter closed, there are rumors that alcohol violations are an excuse but there is another reason why the chapter actually closed. [I've tried to tell the girls that rumors are just that and only FIJI's headquarters really know the reason why, but I guess rumors are much more fun to talk about].
It's too bad, the FIJI house was one of the stronger fraternities on campus. Hopefully, though, some of the men that would have been drawn to FIJI will find homes in other fraternities and help make some of the other chapters stronger.

FIJI is a Great Fraternity.

Phi Gamma Delta has charter pulled
By Kristen Schorsch
Iowa City Press-Citizen
A party last week involving alcohol at a University of Iowa fraternity house led its international headquarters to pull the UI Greek house’s charter.
On Monday, some 17 Phi Gamma Delta fraternity brothers who were to live in the house this fall were told to find a new place to live, said Bill Martin, executive director of the international fraternity, based in Lexington, Ky.
Known as “FIJI,” the fraternity at 303 Ellis Ave. is being temporarily suspended for a series of violations to the headquarters’ policies on risk management and alcohol, Martin said.
The fraternity had a party within the last 10 days that involved alcohol, Martin said. The chapter has been on probation for more than three years, originally stemming from hazing. Problems related to alcohol followed, Martin said. He did not know when the suspension would be lifted.
Following the suspension, alumni who own the FIJI’s house in Iowa City decided to close it, Martin said, speaking on behalf of the alumni.
Fraternity members declined to publicly comment.
