Single-sex classes upset Va Tech faculty

Quote:
RICHMOND, Va. - The creation of gender-segregated classes at Virginia Tech for visiting faculty from Saudi Arabia is drawing complaints from professors, who say a state-supported school shouldn't promote discrimination
The rest of the story

I don't think people should be THAT upset. I've heard of middle schools experimenting with boys-only English classes and girls-only math and science classes and in both cases, the kids' grades improved in those respective subjects.

Yeah. With little kids, it does work, because boys and girls learn differently, and girls feel more confident without boys in class. We learned about that in school.

I think the Saudi Arabia thing is just having respect for someone's cultural beliefs. I wouldn't say its discrimination. What if Americans went over there or some other country with a differnet gender code, and they made us do what THEY do instead of them accomidating us? We wouldn't like that. I don't think its that big a deal.

I hate when any little thing happens and DISCRIMINATION is the first thing that comes out of folks mouths. That's unnecessary. And its NOT discrimination. Discrimination would be if they didn't let women come AT ALL.

Absolutely. It's more like separate but equal!
