University of Colorado cuts alcohol budget
BOULDER, Colo., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- The University of Colorado will limit the amount of taxpayer money spent on alcohol, the Boulder Daily Camera reports.
University President Hank Brown announced the policy change Tuesday at a meeting with 200 administrators and politicians.
He said the move will set an example for students and will be fiscally responsible in an era of increasing budget cuts.
University spokeswoman Michele McKinney said the university spent $466,000 on alcohol between 2000 and 2004. Nearly $150,000 of that came from taxpayer money and tuition.
State law doesn't restrict spending on alcohol.
The new guidelines don't restrict spending on alcohol altogether. Money allotted for entertainment purposes can still be spent as long as it is at a university function and approved by the administration.
Any other alcohol served at functions needs to be purchased by attendees.
