Real World

Do you think that by trying out/being on the Real World show, it would be doing something against your GLO? Do you think that your GLO would get involved and ask that you not do the show or something?

My one sister wants to try out for the show and I am torn whether or not she should A) do it B) mention that she's a Greek

what does everyone else think?

There have already been a ton of Greeks on the Real World & Road Rules and other reality TV shows.

As far as I know, none of them have ever been disciplined by their GLO or terminated for it. The only one who's questionable is Trishelle and it's been confirmed her sorority membership was terminated before she even tried out for RW.

Audition process

My roommate went through the RW audition process this past fall. She entered the second round of auditions and needed to send in a tape, but as a Gamma Phi Beta, she could not identify herself as a member of the organization. So if she had to mention how she lived in a sorority or anything greek-related, like when we taped her in her bedroom in the house, she just said something along the lines of "I live in my sorority house, it's nice, now let me tell you about my life..." and we avoided letters and emblems at all cost. I think if your sister avoids identifying herself as an ABC, you should be ok, but then again its different with every org.

BTW-my roommate didn't make it past the second round

I actually was a casting intern for Bunim and Murray, the producers of the Real World, and you would be surpised how many greeks tried out and told what house they were from and they stuff they did. On girl was from XYZ organization and told everyone what she was and talked about making out with her sister and having contests on how many guys could they sleep with in a term. it was some crazy ish

I don't think that most orgs would like you say your letters and I've seen people on the shows with their greek letters blocked out. I would love to go on a reality tv show (secret dream!) and I'm sure I couldn't go on there as Miss Z-Chi.

It's interesting though, cause it always comes out. Someone is going to see you and say oh I know her, she's greek. Then it'll be on some website. I don't think you should not be on a show if you really want to just because you're greek unless the whole show is centered around you being greek.

I know TKE at Long beach State had a " Kickin Old School" filming at our chapter house, it completely filled over our house and we got into a lot of trouble with the school and the city. MTV personally created a bad image of the greek system with that damn sorority and fraternity life, no one even does half the stuff like that. it has even been admittted that a lot of that stuff has editied to create drama.

I don't think a person should use their Greek status to get on any reality show. I would suggest that they keep it low key. I wouldn't want to get on RW and have all my sisters excited for me, telling everyone on GC and then me be the one who gets drunk and screaming at the cops on TV. (I have NEVER done that incase you're wondering! )
I think its better to just focus on the type of person you are and why they should pick you.

We had a kind of "all call" auditions at my school, basically auditions for Realworld, RoadRules, FearFactor, a bunch of them. Nationals sent my chapter a letter saying that we were not supposed to go to these auditions. Some girls did anyways, but we had strict "orders" from nationals not to do so.

The thing is, I think you have to really admit to yourself whether or not you'd make your sorority look bad. I mean, girls like Holly from Road Rules, the Kappa from San Diego (sorry, her name just slipped out of my head), and Kendall made their sororities look good. But, if your whole plan is to sleep with every guy possible and drink like there's no tomorrow, well, you might want to rethink it. And I think we've probably all heard in our respective chapters this... even if you aren't wearing your letters, people know who you are. Within a week of the show airing, everyone will know what org you belong to, whether or not you wear your letters.
