Philanthropy Success

Beta Sig at UGA raised over $65,000 with our golf tournament/silent auction dinner charity event! $40,000 was given to the American Cancer Society through Relay for life and the remaining portion was divided between the AXO Foundation, a local women's shelter, and other projects.

Oh WOW congrats to you guys!!! I was wondering if you could give me some pointers! I am vp fraternity relations and I was over our last fundraiser. We decided to hold a gold tournament. IT went great. We raised almost $8,000 (it was our first golf tournament). I was wondering if you had any tips on how to do as good of a job as you guys did, or any hints on getting dontaions. I am currntly training our new fundrasing chair and I want to know what to tell her!
Thanks!
ITB!

I know that the vast majority of our total raised came from private and corporate donations, not the actual tournament. The tournament and silent auction dinner( the night before) really only produce a small return, but they gear up the parents and make them become more involved and apt to donate. We raised money for the Am cancer society, so they paid for the postage and materials to send out, which helped a good bit. Other than that, we were each required to send donation letters to 20 or so people in order to raise support. Every $30 check counts. those are just a few of the things we did I know of.
