Questioning my editor

I disagree with a punctuation change my editor has advised me to make, but I'm pretty sure I'm right. How do I approach her about it?

Here's the issue at hand. Where do you put the period?

The sky is blue (cyan to be exact)

Thanks!

Right after the end parenthesis, unless the phrase in the parenthesis is a full sentence.

I would also consider using a hyphen instead...

Thanks! That's what I thought but she said it goes inside. So how do I not make her mad by pointing out that she's wrong?

I just asked a woman who works in my office that used to work for a local newspaper and is currently editing a book for someone and she said exactly what Rudey said-- after the parentheses and if it was a complete sentence-- then it is inside.

The sky is blue (cyan to be exact).

(The sky is blue- cyan to be exact.)

I agree with Rudey on the hyphen!!!

I say tell her. Maybe once she realizes your right, she'll see you as a possible leader and very consistent, precise, hard-worker. Promotion, anyone?

I also agree with the hyphen idea.

That's a style issue and not a grammar issue, though.

Haha, thanks again! I like the hypen idea, too, but the sky thing was just an example I came up with. The actual text involves boring dairy facts. Thanks! You guys rock!

Sheila, I'm sure she'd love to see that I'm consulting my greek friends about her during work hours!

I grew some balls and went in there with my AP Stylebook in hand and she said I could change it 5 minutes later! We were right, great editors of GC!

Well, you could simply say you were consulting us about work (this time).
