Going Away Presents

My best friend of forever is moving away at the end of this month to start law school. This will be the first time that we'll be more than a ten minute drive apart, and I know that she's a little nervous about moving so far away so I wanted to make her last month here a memorable one. I already have a surprise going away party planned for her, but I have no idea what I can get her for a going away present...I want it to be something fun and special...any ideas?

When my old roommate moved away, people made her scrapbooks, CD mixes and a photo calendar. Or maybe just get her a nice collage frame with a ton of pics in it.

A day at the spa and salon for both of you and then have a portrait made together. Get an enlargement of the photo made and have it framed very nicely and send it to her after she moves.

I like the day at the spa idea, and maybe like a small present like a scrap book or a picture or something. You don't wanna get her anything too big since she already has so much stuff that she needs to pack up (and may need to get rid of a few things). Another thing that you could do is order a gift basket and have it sent to her house in her new town with a few goodies, a map of her new place, a map of the subway/bus system (if they have one there), some pens/pencils and paper for law school, etc. Just stuff that she could use to get acquainted with her new place. Also, gift cards to places like Linens N' Things, Bed Bath and Beyond, Target, and Ikea are good because she can use them to decorate her new place.

That works too. Take her out for a night on the town as a one last girls' night out.

Get a gift unique to the area that you currently live in-- it will remind her of the town and you!

Great gifts include making your own "KIT Kit"-- do a photo collage of your time together and give her a photo album to start so she is excited about the new place, stationery and an address book, stamps and some fun pens. Also, a well-written note about how special it has been to be friends in the same town and that no matter the miles between you, you will be friends always!
