Any takers?
After scanning some of the post for an answer and coming up empty handed, I figured is time to see if anyone can help with this one. Its a dosie! A first-year friend from home on my campus was rushed, pledged, and initiated in a NPC. Things did not work out and certain rules were broken by her sorority. She's a great girl in would fit in with alot of the other houses on my campus. Question is: can she re-rush but not be initiated(like forever a new member) by another NPC sorority on campus. Its just an unfortunate situation and hate to see her college experience ruined by something so dumb(for lack of a better word).

Hi there, sorry your friend had a bad experience, but it's an NPC rule that once you are initiated, you can't pledge another group. So to answer your question, no.

I can understand why she would want to re-rush, but why in the world would anyone want to forever be a new member?
Like Jocelyn said, once initiated into another NPC you can never join another NPC. When bids are distributed they are only good for one year, so it's impossible to "forever be a new member" (unless she rushes and receives a bid from the other 25 NPC sororities).
I'd advise your friend to look into the possibility of joining a local (if her campus has them), or a service or professional Greek organization.

Since she was already INITIATED elsewhere, I don't even think the sorority would be able to extend her a bid, period.

I remember a post on here a while back about "social affiliation," how girls who transferred to a campus that didn't have their sorority became friends with girls in a sorority on their new campus and would go to things like mixers, semis, formals, etc. but not be allowed to attend meetings or things like that. Your friend's best bet would be to do that or as OTW said look into joining a non-NPC GLO.

Thats what I have suggested to her, she's just upset about how things have worked out. Its hard to meet people and form friendships at a school that is very greek and cliquey to say the least.

well we had a guy in our fraternity who got de-scrolled from another house and pledged ours. No problem in the fraternity scene for that. Kind of strange that sororities are this strict on members that obviously have special circumstances to quit or switch...
Well, if she can't quit, then that's where she is stuck. My advice is to make everyone else's life a living hell in that house until they disband and maybe then she can form her own local group. Remember, this only works if you make the other girls go nuts....
Good luck!

I remember a time when I was very pissed at my chapter sisters and I really wanted to go alum early just so I didn't hafta put up with their bullshit anymore.
And then I sat with my chapter advisor (the lovely hawaiiagd) and she reminded me about how our sisterhood extended internationally and how, even if I didn't get along with those on our campus (at that time), there'd be other sisters our there who'd show me what sisterhood was really all about.
I'm glad I took her advice. I took my time, and my campus sisters took their time. It took me awhile and we appreciate each other now, but those sisters I met later on in life are the ones who I will keep with me forever.

I know this, you know this, and thousands of our NPC sisters know this.
But we'll still get the same question over and over again. I'd say someone will ask the same question once every few weeks.

that's not really common. There's no official status of "social" member that i've ever heard of. Certainly not in KD.

Well maybe not for your Fraternity.....
But in ours (Zeta Psi) it is a very strict and upheld rule that you must have not been affiliatted with no other Fraternity!! We can never be to safe about protecting our Fraternity.

AST has that clause, and maybe someone who has the written info can clarify, but I believe that is ONLY in cases where a woman transfers to campus and there is not a chapter of her sorority. She would not rush, but if she happened to become very close to the AST chapter, they could extend this to her. I think, that she would then be eligible for everything except for voting, and rituals. I highly doubt this is done very often, but do believe it is there.
We hear this all the time and the reality is she either needs to suck it up and stick it out, or deactivate. Contrary to popular belief, it IS possible to have a happy and healthy college experience w/out being greek. Tell her to join some clubs, get involved in the community and find her own niche, not wait for her chapter to make it for her.
