ADPi sister on new WB reality show!!
Sister Mindi Emanuel from MU (Missouri) is on the new show "Beauty and the Geek" which is on the WB on Wednesday nights at 8:00 EST!! They will be running an encore presentation tonight at 9:00 EST!!
"It all starts with seven women who are academically impaired. Next, add seven men who are brilliant but socially challenged. The concept is to pair up couples for a chance to win a $250,000 grand prize. Each mismatched pair competes in various activities designed to test intellect, fashion savvy and even dance moves. There's a spelling bee for the girls, massage lessons for the guys, and an introduction to actual rocket science when the girls compete to see who can build a working rocket. During these competitions, the geek must try to pass his brains onto the beauty, while the beauty tries to pull the game out of the geek. They're so far apart on the social spectrum that they're practically different species, but if they make it to the end, they could both walk away gifted and gorgeous."- taken from the WB website about the show

As a slight hijack- there is another reality show where celebrities have to learn how to ballroom dance. One of my good friend's daughters, who was a DZ at UGA, interviewed former football player Hershel Walker for Vince Dooley day, and he asked her if she knew anyone that knew ballroom dancing, because he had been asked to be on the show. She had taken in college, so she showed him several moves-so be looking when H. Walker comes on!!

Obviously, Mindi is on the right! I like the way they label her "The Sorority Girl" !

If you are on AOL, they have a place on the front page showing clips from TV shows that were on last night. One is of Mindy showing Richard how to dance! I watched it this morning before I read this thread. Cool!! She's really cute-let's hope they edit her well.

I wonder what it is because "Dancing with the Stars" on ABC started last night and he is not one of the contestants! Knowing reality tv another channel will probably come out with a slight modification of it and call it something different!! The show on ABC has Rachel Hunter, Trista Rehn Sutter, Evander Holyfield, Joe McIntyre, Kelly Monaco, and John O'Hurley dancing with professional dancers!! I would have to rate it about a "7"!!
But on the topic of Mindi-- they better edit her well! I will be so mad if they make her look stupid!!!

Am I the only one that finds it kind of disturbing that they (the WB) called the girls "academically impaired"? Let's face it I highly doubt Mindi is that "academically impaired" as they would like her to be. Some schools the girls have to keep a minimum of 3.0 to remain active.
Here's to hoping that Mindi "shows them" that she isn't "academically impaired" and then ends up winning in the first place.
Wait question, what exactly does the competition entail? Does anyone know?

That phrase jumped out at me also, ASUADPi! I thought it was rude, but I think it's just another Greek stereotype the media is playing out.
I know our ADPi chapter at Mizzou is stellar. I'll be interested to watch!

I posted the description above....and that comment stood out to me too!
I don't think its a greek stereotype-- it is what they stereotyped all of the girls on the show-- and I do not think they are all greek!! Anyways-- I am sure they are actually smart and Mindi will represent ADPi well!

Re "Dancing With the Stars," I THINK that they are different celebrities each week, but I'm not sure, so it may be the same show.

Not with Dancing With the Stars - they're doing a type of "American Idol" flavor with calling/going online to vote for your favorite contestant, and then the next week they boot the lowest scoring couple. I watched it last night, and it was interesting - but it seemed as if the judges were favoring the cha cha over the waltz (but that could be my personal bias, I guess )

THANK YOU, SISTER!! I was reading this with my mouth agape. I highly doubt this is the kind of activity our Founding Sisters would have endorsed. And to be know as the sorority girl in these circumstances just furthers the negative image we sorority women (who do lots of great work in the chapter, on campus and in the community) must face.
Personally, I find this offensive.

I feel a bit foolish. Someone help me! On the website, it says there's an encore performance tonight but there's a baseball game on. I'm so confused!

I'm actually going to watch it tonight just to see how they portray Mindi. I've decided that if they do a shitty job at it that I will be writing a nasty letter to them regarding their practices and giving in to the stereotypes of "sorority girls".
