people are going nuts over here in naples. of course the media does nothing to calm fears. if anything they stir it up, so that people will "tune in!"

The #1 reason why I'm glad to be out of Florida.

THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!
In all seriousness...My thoughts with those who are in the path of this hurricane. but the extent that the news media goes to "inform" us about them is CRAZINESS! My father and I always joke about media coverage. Do the newscasters get hazard pay for reporting from the middle of one? (I still remember seeing Brian Bloom and a Weather Channel meteorologist being blown across the Virginia Beach boardwalk during Isabel.)
I hope this one stears well clear of the areas that were devastated last year by hurricane after hurricane! Have they even recovered yet?

No. Parts of my hometown still look like a war zone, and it wasn't even the worst hit. People are still waiting to hear from their insurance companies.

YIKES! I hope Dennis the Menace decides to stay away from you. I am so sorry to hear that people are still not getting relief.

No hazard pay. People in the media think they're bullet proof. I know, because when I lived in Florida, I was one of those idiots with the mike standing near the road that was just washed out, holding on to a sign pole so I wouldn't be blown away -- telling others why they should evacuate!
FSU Zeta-- here's hoping Dennis is just a minor rain storm when it gets to Naples.

To my sister-
I have one question....was it worth it? Just kidding. I am glad you made it safely out of that hurricane!

blueangel, thanks for your good wishes.
at times last night we had some high winds and hard rain but we must be in the lee of a rotation right now-little wind and no rain.
the eye is still south of us, and although is predicted to not hit land until the panhandle, the bands will continue to effect us for some time.

Still drunk from the hurricane party last night. I smell like chlorine and ocean water, don't know where my boxers I was wearing last night are, lost my shirt, woke up next to a 6 ft beautiful columbian looking chick with D breasts and I was wearing some kinds of nighty pants that said hello kitty on my ass. wtf happened last night?

Oh, I don't live there any more. My parents still do, however. They evacuated last night, and they usually take irreplaceable items (photos, documents, etc) with them. Everything else can be replaced.
