30th Birthday Party Ideas

My boyfriend is turning the big 3-0 in September. His parents, sisters and I are planning to throw him a surprise party (although he already figures something is up and is trying to avoid it at all costs even though he loves the attention ). Just wondering of some fun ideas we can incorporate into the party on that day for him. So far the tentative plan is that it is going to be in their backyard, they are going to put up a big tent and have it catered.

My cousin came up with the best idea for her BF for whenever he turns 30.

Have a 3 tiered celebration:

First 10 years - throw a kid party, complete with cartoon favors, goodie bags, and a bounce house.

First 20 years - "sneak" into a dive bar that you used to try and frequent pre-21 or order a keg of some PBR or something.

The big 3-0: I forget exactly what she said... but something along the lines of stay inside after 2 days of partying... or sit around and drink Merlot. I can't remember.

Or do what my co-worker did... for her hubby's 30th, she ordered adult entertainment... and planned to stay and watch.

If there is a Dave and Busters nearby... take him there. It's a video game arcade... but they server beer/alcohol.

Do like the mexicans in South Texas do. It's become pretty popular with people of all races. Celebrate it for the entire weekend.

For my 30th, we started on a thursday night with everyone who had come in town getting together for Dinner and drinks at a local sports bar.

Friday was dinner with close friends and my family and then off to a concert at Gruene Hall (an old german dancehall from the 1880's). Reckless Kelly was playing. Got to have a few drinks with the band after.

Saturday was the big day. Lunch was downtown on the riverwalk with my family. We also did a riverboat tour. Then got ready for the party at my friend beth's house. She had it catered by my favorite restauraunt (Rudy's BBQ). There were Mariachi's and a margarita machiene. After the party wound down about 11PM, we all went downtown to finish the note off at Howl at the Moon and pat O'Brians.

It was the best bday celebration I ever had.
