WTF Yankees?

Quote:
The San Diego Padres made a pre-emptive strike to address some bullpen needs by acquiring New York Yankees reliever Paul Quantrill in exchange for struggling pitchers Darrell May and Tim Redding, two San Diego-area papers reported.

Quantrill, who was designated for assignment on Thursday, is expected to be activated upon his arrival on Sunday. Quantrill was 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA in 22 games with the Yankees.

May, a left-hander, was 1-3 with a 6.69 ERA in eight starts for the Padres this season. Redding was 0-5 with an 8.94 ERA in six starts. Both will report to the Yankees' Triple-A club in Columbus, Ohio.

The Padres will also send an unspecified amount of cash in the trade. Quantrill is making $3 million this season plus a $400,000 buyout on an option for next year. May is making $3.2 million, Redding $750,000.

Even though highly unlikely maybe the Boss decided to be sellers this year and give struglling players a chance. It worked for Theo with players such as Mueller, Arroyo, and most famoulsly Ortiz.

It's not about struggling players - it's a "win now" philosophy that Steinbrenner has pushed since he bought the team.

Those three were different stories than May and Redding (Mueller especially - anyone remember he was a damn good player for San Fran and Chicago if not for injuries?).

Quantrill wasn't pitching well, San Diego offered to front some cash for the salary difference, so the Yankees jumped on it. May reminds me of Ed Whitson numbers wise (not mental like Whitson though), and if either of these guys does anything it will be a bonus. I've lost a lot of hope in this season for the Yanks.
