Honorary Members
Are BGLO sororities the only GLO with honorary members?
Reason I ask, I haven't heard other GLO speak of "honorary members".
Also, do honorary members learn "everything" there is to know about the organization like "real" members do? Can they do the hand signs, calls, wear para, etc.
One more question, how does one become an honorary member? Do you have to be a woman/man of wealth or power? or can you be an "ordinary" person who does a number of things in the community, church, etc.

What do you mean? If it is inappropriate the mature thing would be to say just that and leave it alone or not reply at all. I'm curious, don't know, so I asked. Simple as that!

My GLO (professional) has honorary members at the national level. They are entitled to join our alumni association, wear paraphenalia, etc.
We select based upon their professional accomplishments and belief in our ideals.

1. Honorary members are real members.
2. as members, they know everything that any other member knows about the org. if they wish to wear 'nalia, do calls/signs, there is nothing stopoping them.
3. there are every day people as well as the "famous" who are deemed honorary members.

don't pay the researcher any attention. Honorary members are real members. They wear para, do the call, etc. They don't have to be wealthy or famous. Many of our Honorary sorors are dynamic women who have done things in the community.

and yes it took

BGLOs are not the only orgs with honorary members. My GLO, which is also professional (Phi Beta) has many honary members.. as BFulton mentioned.. they are extended this membership because they exemply ideals of our fraternity. To give you an example:
Phi Beta is an arts fraternity. We have a cottage at and support the MacDowell Colony. Leonard Bernstein stayed in our cottage there, and happened to write some of his more well known works during this time. Because of his close ties with Phi Beta (this and some other things), he was an honary member of Phi Beta Fraternity.
Hope that helps

My fraternity does not have 'honorary' members but we do have special initiates. These are women that exemplify our fraternity and are recommended for membership. Each woman must complete the same new member education as a collegian and then participates in our beautiful ritual. She is eligible to full rights as a member, including serving as a local, district, province or national officer.

You may be interested in looking at another thread from a few months ago. It had to do with Oprah Winfrey and honorary members, etc. It is a discussion of that which you are asking about.
