Man dies during chairity bike ride

Unfortunately, I was basically right behind this when it happened. I stopped at the rest stop right before this HUGE hill to get water and a banana, it was only about 20 miles into the ride. They started holding people back at the rest stop. We waited there for almost an hour, then we were allowed to pedal single file up the hill (which sucked with a no-passing rule ) and then were stopped at the top of the hill. We sat up there for 30 minutes, and then the race marshals made everyone unclip and walk their bikes single file down the hill...right through the accident site. they had washed the road down and everything...but it was erie. A friend of mine who had left the rest stop before they started holding people said that she saw the paramedics giving CPR and what have you.

this ride raises a ton of money for MS, and it's really sad that this happened. There hasn't been an accident this bad in 20 years. The hill was really hairy, where he got hit iis a very steep (fast) downhill with a sharp right turn, if he started to slide or came out too far around the corner, the car could have nailed him no problem...just the velocity. Its just scary to think that that could have been me or my boyfriend or our friends...or anyone on that trip. I hope they eliminate that hill next year.
