Unhappy Laid off... well this just sucks.

I got some bad news today... my position is being eliminated in 60 days' time.

I already know why they picked me - last in, first out. I even got praise for my good work when I was given the bad news.

Heh. At least they didn't throw me out on my ass the way the dotcom I used to work for did when they laid me off in 2002. So I have some advance warning and time to try to find a new position before my paycheck goes away.

I'm starting to think going into I.T. was a bad idea...

Wish me luck.

That sucks...sorry to hear about it...if it's any consolation, my boss also cut my hours drastically from 40 hrs/week to about 10-15 hours/week (and sometimes even less!)...I've had my nose to the grindstone since then, but I'm not getting any callbacks

Hopefully you'll have better luck!!!

I'm so sorry to hear this. I don't think being in IT is a bad thing at all, though...your skills are only going to come more in demand as time goes on. Just be sure to keep up your training so you can continue to kick butt! Chin up...you'll find something better.

So sorry to hear this! We're going through the same thing here as I look for a new teaching position.

I'll be thinking about you!

That sucks. I went through that a few months ago. I'm still going through it. I've had about 3 jobs in 3 months. And I have another interview today.

I figure I have something to get by. And I'm getting over it. I actually look at the layoff as a blessing more than anything. I don't think I could stand working at the place I was at for much longer.

Maybe it's better for you.

I am so sorry to hear that, aephi alum Don't start doubting yourself, though. I think you've run into a string of bad luck, which can't go on indefinitely!

Don't let this get you down and don't forget for a minute how qualified you are. For a math and science-challenged person such as myself, a degree from MIT is kind of like a flawless canary diamond: yeah, it's awesome, but there's no way in he** I could ever have one.

Best of luck to you!

If worse comes to worse, considering obtaining a CFA certificate or take a finance and accounting class and go into finance covering the tech industry.
