Thinking of Starting Proofreading/Editing Service- Pricing Ideas?

Well, I'm a poor college student and I started thinking of ways to make some money. I enjoy proofreading/editing (I'm an English major), so my first idea was to offer my services to other students. There's one problem- I have no clue what to charge people. Would I go by the type of document? Number of pages? Any input would be appreciated.

I don't know, but I'd bet you'd make a fortune! Especially if you put flyers in the dorms.

When I did freelance editing, I was paid by the hour. I think that's the best way to go because by the page could end up being messy -- it would take you much longer to edit something riddled with mistakes than it would to edit something written reasonably well, so why not get paid more when you have to put more time into it? If possible, you might want to look over a document before you start to give the person a rough estimate of how long it will take you and how much it will cost.
