food at chapter meetings?

Does anyone serve food at their chapter meetings? Does it help with attendance and/or making people be quiet? Someone suggested that we do this in my chapter but I don't know if it's worth the amount of money that would have to be spent.

When I was a collegian, we'd have potlucks in our chapter room (we didn't have a house) if it was someone's birthday or whatever special occasion. Sign-up sheets usually went out the week before so not everyone brough 7 layer bean dip.

Food was never consumed during the actual business meeting itself. Everything was eaten after. We never really had a no food policy during meetings, but everyone pretty much limited food consumption to small snacks or beverages.

Bringing food was purely optional and anything and everything was welcomed, even if there was no special occasion. The only thing we had to ensure was that the room was spic and span once we left.

We serve food at our chapter meetings. Whoever hosts the meeting for the month is responsible for providing refreshments for that month. We rotate among the members in alphabetical order. Refreshments can vary from chips and salsa to finger sandwiches, depending on what the member wants to do for that meeting.

I know of another chapter in our City Council that has full-blown dinner at their meetings...and being from Louisiana, we can cook that good Cajun food! Yum!

In fact, our chapter is meeting Wednesday night at a restaurant for our meeting and Woman of the Year dinner.

We did (and do) dinner before chapter meetings and no food is ever allowed into the meetings.

Actually no. Its actually in our [local] bi-laws that we're not allowed to eat or drink during chapter meetings. We're pretty loose about it though, you can bring a pop and if a sorority bakes us cookies or something we'll pass them around at the meeting. As far as dinner goes, we dont do that at meetings. Just for verification, you are talking about weekly meetings right?

Our meetings are formal, so we never have food at our meetings. Even when we have the occasional informal meeting, there is no food allowed.

Dinner is served after our general meetings. (First Thursday of every month.) It helps people stay until the end of the meeting, I think.

Us, too. Usually only in-house girls ate supper at the house (if you wanted to eat but didn't live in the house, you had to pay $5), but on Mondays (meeting night) the whole chapter was invited.

We have a potluck every semester where we eat, mostly, after any necessary business is taken care of. It is an informal chapter though, so we'll do something on etiquette or one year we did "Basic Car Maintenance/Repair" Kind of a, yes girls can check (or even change!) their own oil, thing. But no food or drink allowed at formal meetings, though so many girls carry water bottles on their bags that we unofficially tolerate them.

Note: None of the sororities have houses. Our chapter meetings are held in one of the campus' lecture auditoriums.

Yep, and encouraged. Most people just bring cookies or candy or something, or someone bakes. There's always food. No one could ever accuse us of not eating.

no houses at my old chapter either. a few times during the year, we would do a potluck after a formal meeting. at some of our informal meetings or sisterhood nights, we would have a potluck during meeting and do something fun - movie, yoga, etc. at formal meetings, we only allowed water and cough drops. i think we reviewed the rules around flu season lol.

No houses at Sac State, but usually we will end up with some sort of food item by the end of the meeting. Coaches from different organizations will bring in cookies, candy and cakes even to rally us together for their upcoming philanthropies. Sometimes a sister or two will bake a cake for birthdays. We'll have cake at pinnings, special meeting events, etc.

As for munching on dinner during the meeting... I can't remember what their policy is now. I know girls just used to bring in their food and eat at meetings. But I think they stopped that practice or at least limited it until after a certain time so guests that stopped by were interrupted by sisters opening packages and stuff.

We had chapter dinners once a week, but no eating, gum chewing, beverages, etc. are allowed in chapter meeting.

We either serve food or we go out as a chapter afterwards. We have committee especially for that.

Food isn't allowed at our chapter meetings, though drinks are allowed as long as you take your trash with you.
