Post Grades!!

Hello ladies!! I am the president of the Alpha Beta chapter. We are trying to come up with new ways to encourage our members to keep up on there studies and I was just wondering what types of things that other chapters do. Thanks

What we do at the Alpha Lambda chapter is that we have library hours and we have to spend so many hours at the library during the semester and it is counted at the end of the week. We fill in the time we arrive and depart and the scholarship chair calculates the hours. I hope this helps!!
In sisterhood,

I commend you for trying to motivate your sisters to study more and improve their grades.

Different chapters handle this in different ways. Many have set "study times" where sisters must attend, and they study together at certain times of the week. Other chapters have exam files and the senior members tutor the younger members in their classes. I think you should open up the discussion in your chapter, and ask the sisters what they feel would work best for them.

It's important not to let those with lower grades get over-extended with sorority activities instead of focusing on classwork though. Good luck, and feel free to contact me in the future.

I know our chapter has test files and we also do GPA contracts. It is a contract that the sisters sign stating what classes they have and what GPA they expect themselves to earn at the end of the semester. If the sister does not earn that GPA then she pledges to pay 5.00 dollars or whatever amount or service to the sorority that she chooses. It is a fun way to encourage grades and it is sort of a fundraiser we don't mind not making any money on. The last thing we do if a sister has a GPA that is below our standards is mandate study hours with other sisters to help her get her grades up(this also comes with activity restrictions). Hope these ideas help.

A while back there was an interesting idea posted regarding a points system for exam and quiz grades. At the end of the semester the member with the highest number of points received a reward from the chapter (dinner, free tans, or massage, etc.). I couldn't find the posting (I know it's gotta be here somewhere, though). Maybe the chapter who did this could share the details with us again and let us know how things went. If I remember correctly, the way they set their point system made it possible to win even if you currently had a "so-so" GPA.

A massage sounds like excellent incentive to me... especially about long hours studying over books and after the stress of finals.
