Angry Father Arrested in Stabbing Deaths of Two 8 Year Old Girls

Sick is putting it nicely. How could someone stab children to death - your own daughter on top of that!

Father Arrested in Slaying of Two Girls

ZION, Ill. - A man was arrested on murder charges Tuesday in the Mother's Day stabbings of his 8-year-old daughter and the little girl's best friend, who were killed after they went biking in a park.

Jerry Hobbs, who was recently released from prison, had led police to the bodies just off a wooded bike path early Monday, claiming he spotted them while searching for his daughter, the girl's grandfather, Arthur Hollabaugh, told The Associated Press.

Hobbs, 34, was questioned through the day about the deaths of Laura Hobbs, 8, and Krystal Tobias, 9.

Both girls had been beaten and stabbed repeatedly in the woods and left to die, Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said. He said the girls were found side-by-side and did not appear to have been sexually assaulted.

I found that part of me was relieved when I heard the father was arrested because it means that it wasn't just some random crime. But after I thought about it a little longer I was just sad and disgusted about the whole thing.

Did you see the picture of the suspect? Scary looking SOB. I hope he ends up as someone's prison bitch.

My bet is those little girls came across him unexpectedly in some sort of compromising situation....ie, making or doing meth, etc, and he flipped out, killing them to keep from being found out. Remember the girl in southern Indiana who was killed simply because the guy THOUGHT she saw him making meth.

Poor babies...their poor families

This is the reason why he killed them...

Illinois Man Tells Investigators He Stabbed, Killed Daughter and Her Friend Over Broken Curfew

WAUKEGAN, Ill. -- Jerry Hobbs told investigators he was angry at his 8-year-old daughter for breaking curfew when he tracked her and a young friend down in a wooded park, punched her and then killed both girls, stabbing his daughter over and over again in the neck and eyes, prosecutors said his first court appearance Wednesday.

Okay, I don't have kids so I don't know, but since when do 8 year old kids have a curfew? Are they really allowed to be out and about by themselves and responsible for getting home at a certain time?

The standard in my neighborhood was that kids around that age had to go home when the street lamps came on.

When the first mother in the apartment complex said "Get in the *** damn house boy before it gets dark," that was when we all broke apart for the night.

I COULD just say there are special places in hell for shit like this....but I have to think this guy has some devil incarnate in him.....

Zion is a pretty close knit town so they are use to letting their kids go out. I still think 7pm is too late a curfew for a kid. I feel bad for the mothers but at the same time pissed that you would let a man who just got out of prison for violating his parole by chasing you and others through a trailer park with a chainsaw move in with you and your family. He would not have even known I had left Texas and definitely would not know how to track me.

This is one of the sickest and most unbelievable things I have ever heard of. I hope he gets the death penalty. If anyone deserves it, he does. I also don't buy his story about the friend pulling the knife on him. I find it extremely hard to believe that a 9-year-old girl was carrying around a knife and would have the gall to pull it on an adult man. And even if she did, it certainly does not in any way justify what he did. Self defense isn't an issue here, because it's easy enough for a grown man to take a knife away from a little girl without getting hurt.

He'll definitely get his in prison. You know those other inmates are just as apalled at what he did as we are.

Unhappy Here's another graphic account of their death

Prosecutors: Dad admits killings
Account: Friend tried to defend Hobbs' daughter

Wednesday, May 11, 2005 Posted: 10:44 PM EDT (0244 GMT)

WAUKEGAN, Illinois (CNN) -- An ex-convict has admitted punching, kicking and stabbing to death his 8-year-old daughter and her 9-year-old best friend on Mother's Day, prosecutors in suburban Chicago said.

Jerry Hobbs, 34, was charged Wednesday with two counts of first-degree murder and denied bond, Lake County State's Attorney Michael Waller said.

Hobbs could face the death penalty if convicted.

Prosecutors are calling the killings "a slaughter." Laura Hobbs was stabbed 20 times and Krystal Tobias was stabbed 11 times, they said.

The second-grade classmates were found dead Monday, a day after they were last seen riding their bikes. (Best friends)

Their killings have shaken the town of Zion, about 40 miles north of Chicago.

Hobbs has told authorities he thought his daughter was "having too much latitude as to what she can and can't do," said Jeffrey Pavletic, chief deputy of the Lake County state's attorney's criminal division.

Hobbs said he went to Beulah Park between 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, "looking for Laura to bring her home," Pavletic said.

Hobbs "said that he saw her with Krystal, said that he then confronted Laura and said, 'Come home, you're coming home with me,'" Pavletic said.

"She said she didn't want to. An argument developed. He had then said in his own words that he had punched her twice at least in the face. She went down to the ground. Krystal then came to Laura's rescue. The defendant then stated that he punched her to the ground as well.

"He then stated that during this period of time, Krystal, who was coming to the aid of Laura, had pulled out what he described as a potato knife," Pavletic continued.

"He said that once that potato knife was pulled out, he said that is when he struck Krystal. He then took the knife from her and then repeatedly began to stab both girls in the bodies."

Hobbs was slashed in the neck, abdomen and both eyes. Tobias was stabbed in the neck and abdomen, Pavletic said."To get an idea of the type of thrust that was being used, the injuries to Laura's neck actually not only went through tissue but struck in the spinal cord as well."
