What is the life that you have imagined?
All,
My mother's friend is a motivational speaker.
The following is a quote that she wrote herself and sent to me recently that truly moved me when I really started to think about it and apply it to my life.
"If you advance confidently in the direction of your dreams, and endeavor to live the life that you have imagined, you will meet with a success unexpected in common hours."
What is the life that you have imagined? How do you /would you endeavor to "live the life that you have imagined?"
What is an example of you "advanc[ing] confidently in the direction of your dreams?"

My interpretation of the quote is that if I continue to move with prayer and purpose towards my dreams, they will be actualized well before I expected them to ("in common hours" - not taking forever, lol).
The life I imagine for myself consists primarily of peace, love, happiness, and family. I want peace in my spirit, love in my life, happiness in knowing that I am doing what was meant for me, and a family (which includes husband, friends, and children) to share it with. If I can achieve those, I feel that I will be a success.
An example of me advancing confidently in the direction of my dreams: When I started my current job (which was too months before graduation), I said, I will be promoted in 6 months. I was ACTUALLY promoted in 4 months!!! God is good.

I don't mean to crash or step on the toes of your friend's mom SummerChild but her quote sounds a lot like it was based on the American essayist, poet and philosopher, who lived in the 1800s, a Mr. Henry David Thoreau. His quote is
"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined."
I just thought I would add that credit here on GC, hope no one minds!

I don't have the life I imagined, but that's a good thing. At 12, my dream was to be a stock broker (lol) and at 18, I wanted to be married and having a child by 25. And I've done none of that! LOL
My goal now (and has been for the last few years) is to have the life that God has ordained for me. I want to fulfill His purpose and it brings me joy to do that. I don't regret ANYTHING I've experienced up to this point, for I know that "ALL THINGS work together for good for those that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose."
I'm happy with how my life has turned out so far. I'm engaged to an awesome man. I have a great job (I can now see why God brought me here). I'm in the process of starting up a contemporary christian singing group. Yes, I've had my share of problems and dissappointments, but God has shown Himself strong through all of that by strengthening my character, giving my more wisdom, giving me more joy - what could beat that?
I can honestly say that I NEVER thought I'd be here (at this point in my life) but now, i can't imagine being any other place but here.

My example of advancing confidently in the direction of my dreams is my applying to Graduate School. I was very reluctant to do this b/c I was afraid of rejection, scared of change. But...I was recently accepted into both schools I applied to!! Masters degree here I come! I am so happy that I did this because I did not want to remain stagnant in my current situation. The life I had imagined for myself was nothing like this, but I know things don't always turn out the way you expect them to. Instead of trying to live the life that I had imagined for myself, I now try to live the life that was destined for me to live.

ZTAMich, my mom told me that her friend made it up but my mom could have been wrong. Does the quote also teach achieving uncommon success in common time? That is also very meaningful to me and a part of the quote that I don't think can be left out. Anyway, who cares who said it, what is the life that you have imagined?

I asked myself what is the life that I have imagined while determining whether I want to take a new job in a new place, and what my priorities are. I decided that there are various aspects to the life that I have imagined for myself at this point in time. For instance, I have decided to take try for positions in one place as opposed to another because I have imagined being able to sit on my patio every evening and watch the sun set over the ocean...I can only do that in certain places. That is one example for me of endeavoring to live the life that I have imagined.

I generally imagine my life in five year increments. This last five year period is about to be up, so I guess I have to start imagining again.
However, at the end of this five year segment is getting that graduate degree, having a certain amount of savings, getting my first book published, and traveling outside of the country again.
I am not sure how that will all work out. I have two out of three so far.

All,
Of course you can type whatever you want in response to the question. However, I just want to clarify what I was asking.
When I asked what is the life that you have imagined, I mean, what is your fantasy, which may be a little different from a list of your goals. How do you imagine your life (as opposed to what are your goals)? When you close your eyes and dream and you see yourself, what do you see yourself doing/being in your fantasy? Just asking b/c I often find that we spend so much time planning for the future that we exist to be and never dream in the present tense so to speak ... but that *too* (even our present tense dreams) can be ours.

I thought this is what you meant when I first read it. Thank you for posting this because I have been thinking about this lately and realize why I am not satisfied. I was pretty much headed in the direction of my fantasy and actually succeeding, but then those "goals" that I wanted took priority over my fantasy. I got married and had babies and that killed the fantasy! But lately I have thought about this. I had been pondering your question for some time and this has made me decide to pursue the fantasy.
Thank You!!

Child, you crazy! LOL! What I should have said is that a husband and some kids will make you forget "yourself". Women are nurturing by nature. God made us this way. I guess I was so caught up in being a good wife and a good mother that I forgot that I had fantasies. Now that I've clarified this, do you feel any better?
