Ski Resort Behavior Investigated (Kappa Sig & Chi O, U of Penn.)
An investigation of alleged destructive and inappropriate behavior at a ski resort weekend is underway. Allegedly the behavior involved some members of Kappa Sigma and Chi Omega from the U. of Pennsylvania, who were having an event at the resort.
A reminder: the University of Pennsylvania is a private Ivy League school, and should not be confused with Penn State, which is the flagship public university in PA.
story from the student paper:

Stupid is as Stupid does.
The people who own the Ski Area have Insurance just as GLOs do.
If they were out of line, Off of the Hill! Period.
Skiing is to dangerous unto it self. Been there done it!
Not a great racer in GS but raced in a lot of places. Even bailed on some courses as to crazy.!

I advise at Penn and word around the Panhel office is that things were (unfortunately) even worse than this article lets on. Let's hope the people in question clean up their acts!

I agree with the feedback writer, if the resort director is so hung up on it being family friendly she shouldn't have booked a group of college students (Greek or not). I guess the money was more important to her. Dumb twat.
Newsflash, 75% and upwards of the people skiing at any resort in the US have probably had an adult beverage or two before, during and after.

That's not panhellenic. You know...spreading rumors.

That's going a little far. At least at the Colorado resorts, the Ski Patrol is very pro-active in keeping dangerous people off of the slopes.
As for the ownership, it sounds like she was concerned about booking this group, but was convinced by the fraternity president that they wouldn't be a problem.
I doubt she'll do that again.

Being dangerous and having had something to drink while you're skiing are not synonymous.
Seriously, I'm sure that there were people at this particular resort on that day who were just as drunk, they just happened to be not so loud and obnoxious about it.

But at the same time it doesn't excuse their extreme assholish behavior. It's one thing to have a few drinks, it's another thing to destroy property, walk around cursing and misbehaving when there are obviously families around you, etc. If a group/s are going to go somewhere, there's no reason that they can't behave on a reasonable level. No one's expecting them to be as quiet as church mice but they're also adults. There's no excuse for that sort of behavior

I agree they were being jaglike, but if the booker's that hung up on it being a "family resort" you need to put that above the almighty dollar when you're booking groups. She said she had reservations, but since these students were from Penn she smelled $$$ and decided that was more important. Stick to your guns or suffer the consequences.
Sorry, but I just get a little weary of this OMG THINK OF THE CHILDREN mindset. If they're old enough to be on skis, I doubt drunk people cussing is a new experience for them.

At the end of the day, though, what we have is a fraternity and sorority who managed to convince someone, who was already wary, that they would not be a problem.
When they're gone, they've left physical damage, but perhaps worse, they've left everyone else who has come in contact with them with the image that greeks are assholes.
Just the kind of positive image we're trying to foster. Remember what we keep saying, it only takes one bad experience to overshadow all of the good things we do to try to better a tarnished image.

Didnt either group have advisors that could have leaned on the undergrads with some, "if ya'll dont behave, youre gonna have to answer to me." kinda stuff?
Hell, I advise a GREAT group of guys and I do that all the time. They KNOW better than to do somethign like that. They'd answer to me if they did and it wouldnt be plesant.

I suppose some groups would listen to that -- but some wouldn't.
Perhaps if advisors had been along, they might have helped keep things under control -- but maybe not.
It's possible the advisors didn't even know about the event in advance -- but not likely, I guess.

The sad part is, they will never be allowed to return as no other Greek Goup will be! The onus has now been placed on all Greeks because of this.
I ran a trip as posted earlier with Asti Party on Hill, near the Day Lodge. Had to talk my ass off to get it done. Promised and delivered. We were always welcomed back for just doing the right thing!
What a dissapointment with These GLOs. Ruined for all of us.
Oh, do I need to say once again?
