Job Pet Peeves
As I sit here doing the one thing that detracts from being a teacher for me, I was wondering: What is it about your job(s) that irks you or makes it less than PERFECT?
Mine is GRADING PAPERS -- I am always putting it off.
My other thing would be meeting parents/teacher meetings.

Jobs
Well I work for a blood bank in the donor services department. I do so much work, and the think at irks me, is that I was hired on for part time work only and lately when the blood buses come in late, I am expected to stay overtime and do my job. I was hired for specific hours only and I can't afford to change my schedule daily, because they are off schedule. I have class in the mornings, I have my volunteer service to committ to daily, etc.
Also, they are quick to point out errors I make and highlight them and plac them on my desk! If it was someone else, they get, I know you are tired, just try to be more careful Oh well, enough venting for me

Hello!
Hmmmmmmmm. Being in Special Education, 90% of our job is PAPERWORK! I guess that's why we receive extra $$$ towards our salary, but STILL...I'll probably have arthritis in my hand before I'm 35.
1. IEPs
2. Pre-eval paperwork
3. progress reports
4. data collection
5. IEPs
6 IEPs
7. IEPs
8. IEPs
It's only rough when you have a large number of students on your caseload and their information is due within the SAME WEEK and you are NOT organized. Yet, it's the idea of having to complete ALL of those forms. GOODNESS!
This year I only have 3.

Not Sure if I Understand
Let me make sure I have this right, those IEPs make you battier than a baseball bat
Girl I hate having to sit in on those conferences and read them/apply them.
In one class two years ago, out of a class of 22, 8 of them had IEPs -- Hot Mess.

Mine is people having personal conversations (and not trying to hide it) and sleeping!!! I get personal calls too, but I can also work. I know that those other people are just sitting there talking!
A couple of weeks ago, this one chick was out all week sick. Then when she came back she slept half the time because she didn't feel well. I asked why doesn't she go home. Her response, "I don't have any more sick time."
I thought too d___ bad. It's not fair that she gets paid for sleeping. Plus, she got caught by the Manager and he didn't say anything! Had been me or the other girl on my team, we would've been out of there!

To be honest, I've had my fair share of jobs that were grueling. However, the job that I have now would probably be considered the "ideal" job. I'm an intensive in-home counselor and I work with at-risk youths (mostly teenagers). The hours are flexible and I receive an enormous amount of autonomy. HOWEVER...the ONE thing that I would consider to be a "job pet peeve" is...the MEDICAID PAPERWORK.
Although there is not a LOT of it, what we DO haveto complete is ALWAYS strictly criticized and many times we haveto REDO it, ADD a word or phrase, CHANGE this or that (Medicaid is FOREVER changing something). After a while one gets tired of this. I mean, when it comes to assessments, ISP's, 90-day review, etc., they are SUPPOSED to be OBJECTIVE, right? Well, there are people who review this stuff and FORGET that and therefore things become SUBJECTIVE. I figure if so-and-so feels that something needs to be CHANGED, ADDED, OR REDONE, then they should do it themselves, since obviously I did not do it the way that THEY wanted me to do it. You just don't know how much that REALLY urks me.

the thing about my job (i do technical support for an accounting software company) that makes it less than perfect: PEOPLE. Let me clarify. There are certain groups of people who make me cuss (and make me want to cuss @ them, but I can't) and make me wonder how in blue blazes they got their jobs:
1) the know-it-all accountant: this person will almost always call in SWEARING there is something wrong with the program because their income statement is showing a negative amount for net income BUT will admit in the SAME conversation, that they spent more than they made.
2) the know-it-all network administrator: the conversation goes like this...
they: yeah, i'm getting a file system error 35 on one of the workstations...
me: ok, what that means is the computer has lost it's connection to the network. you need to check the connections and/or remap the drive.
they: (clearly confused) ok...how do you remap a drive?
MY question is how does one call him/herself a network admin and NOT know how to map a network drive?? that's BASIC!
3) the person who wants help but doesn't want to follow instructions. if you wanted to figure it our on your own, why did you call? you paid for ME to tell YOU what to do, not the other way around.
I could go on, but I will spare y'all the details. I'm trying to keep my blood pressure low.

I work in Criminal Justice
My job pet peeves are longer then my arm.
The people I run into is beyond words.
But believe it or not, I can handle them, it's management that's my big pet peeve. Boy do we forget where we came from. The black managers are far worse then the white managers. People always talking about discrimination, but I get treated worse by my own people.

OK, because I'm in management, I may step on some toes.... OH WELL!
I like my job, but here are some pet peeves:
Employees that try to get over
1) If you're going to call out sick on the night of the R. Kelly concert ~ at least sound sick!
2) If you're supposed to be out on "sick leave" due to an illness, I should not hear how you're doing hair at the shop across town.
3) If I've warned you at least 3 times, plus given you that final warning, please, I repeat puhleasse do not try to act a fool when you get written up.
4) You and your boyfriend should not call out "sick" on the same day - especially if you work together. The world is not that small.
5) You and your friends should not try to rotate the weeks when your going to have a "death in the family"...
I have more, but I'll stop there.
Outside of those, just the typical paperwork and unreasonable deadlines also gets to be a bit tiresome. I have to pull at least 50 reports a day. However, I may get an email 30 minutes to an hour before a deadline asking me to compile a report to be turned in to upper upper management, while also taking care of the needs of 10-20 employees, and not to mention talking to any customer that feels that they MUST speak to me. Now THAT's hectic.

here I go...
I am an engineer at a major telecomm company and the worst thing about my job is...the people. There are two groups of workers:
1) people with 20+ years in the company (many in the same job or department) [like my mom]
2) people with 5 or less years, usually young (under 35) and college educated [like me]
The bad thing is that group 1 refuses to change how they do things and fall back on the 'well, we've ALWAYS done it like that...' Nevermind the fact that the process or procedure (if there is one!) is outdated, unnecessary, costly or illogical. So as a group 2 person, I get very frustrated at times.
Fortunately, I am on a district-wide process improvement team where I hope we can make a difference. These workarounds are a real headache because they don't solve anything.
One would expect engineers to be logical, RIGHT?!

I work at Ohio State as a new-student orientation coordinator (and the only black, might I add). For autumn quarter alone we orient over 8,000 students, so there's never a dull, slow moment for me. My top 10 pet peeves are:
1. Students and parents who call us with DUMB questions (some of which have NOTHING to do with our office), which usually are already answered in the publications we've mailed them.
2. Students and parents who expect rules to be bent for them, like their situation is so unique!
3. Parents who brag on their kids or about the fact that they are OSU alums. "Who gives a flying ____?!?!?!?"
4. Student workers who don't show up, leaving you to answer phones, make copies, send faxes, etc. on top of all the big stuff you have to do.
5. Nosy co-workers who read stuff on your desk and look over your shoulder to see what you're doing.
6. Tattle-tail co-workers and co-workers who LIE.
7. Insecure co-workers who can only find something "wrong" with you, your work, your ideas, your goals, etc., because they think it makes them look better.
8. Co-workers who give you nicknames. WTF?!?!?!?
9. Staff meetings that drag on for hours, yet end without answered questions and resolved problems.
10. When the server is down and I can't send/receive e-mail.

I work at an advertising agency for Chrysler and I love my job to death! I put together the pictures in the car catalogs. The one thing I hate is when people see you in the hall and will do just about anything not to speak(look down at the floor, turn thier head facing the wall, etc..) But as soon as they need something, your a superstar!!!

Re: Hello!
I feel you on the IEP thing...I have eight due next week, and three are transfers, so we don't have a cumulative folders on these kids yet or old IEP's. Oh yeah, next week is Open House too. And Progress Reports are due Friday.
For all my special ed teachers: Why did I go to the Special Education Department Chairperson today, trying to explain to her that I can't write an IEP on a new kid that I have no information on (his former school hasn't sent his cumulative folder yet, and they actually told me that they are 'too busy' to fax last year's IEP ) WHY DID SHE TELL ME, and I quote, "to write something right quick."
Loan Forgiveness, and extra stipends aren't enough to DEAL with this mess!

For those that don't know I work at a shoe store. I've been there for twoyears and I could give a super long list of pet peeves but I won't so here are the main ones. I'm hoping that some of you will read these and stop doing these things if you are guilty.
Customers who constantly walk back and forth by the door with shoes in their hand making the alarm go off every single freakin time!!!
Customers who walk in the store which only has 5 ailes and asks where are the childrens shoes? men's shoes? CAN I GET YOU TO LOOK FIRST!
Customers who walkin the store and pick up a display shoe and ask DO YOU HAVE THIS IN MY SIZE? First of all I don't know what size you wear just by looking at your feet and second CAN I GET YOU TO LOOK FIRST!
customers who ignorantly switch tags on the boxes trying to get over on us. PEOPLE COME ON!! If the shoe is $24.99 there is no way on God's green earth that the shoe is going to be on sale for $7.99!!
when a customer KNOWS that they don't have enough money on their credit card and stand there asking me to try it again after it's declined.
when a customer walk in the store which has HUGE sales signs outside the store, in the store windwos, haning in the store once you walk in, and tags on the boxes and then asks WHAT KIND OF SALE DO YOU HAVE GOING ON?
When people constantly ask you is this on sale? If it's on sales it will have a tag on it LIKE THE OTHER SALE ITEMS
.
when people call our store for the phone number to another store. CAN I GET YOU TO LOOK IN THE PHONE BOOK FIRST!!
my biggest pet peeves of all
when someone calls the store and wants to know do you have a shoe in a certain size, then wants to know how much it is, then wants you to pull it from the shelf for them, then askes you about two or three other shoes. CAN I GET YOU TO COME IN AND LOOK AROUND. This is not shop by phone incorporated.
People we close at 9:00 not 9:05 not 9:07 but 9:00 p.m.!1 We have always closed at 9:00 p.m. so please stop coming in the store at 8:55 trying to shop. we are ready to go home. if you are in the store and you see us cleaning mirrors and sweeping the floor and straigtning the aisles that is your cue to GET OUT!
AND FINALLY, if you should make it to the store and find that the door is locked. do not knock on the window and ask what time we close, it is posted on the door. Do not beg us to open the door becuase you came all the way from BFE and you have to have a pair of shoes for tomorrow. I really don't care. If it was that important that you would have done it ahead of time. Furthermore, WALMART, my friend is open 24 hours!!!
HAPPY SHOPPING!!

Say it isn't so!!! I soooo look forward to meeting my children's teachers. I have a 'back to school' night tonight ironically. I really thought that most teachers praised the fact that there are parents that do want to play an integral role in their child's education instead of just sending their kids to schools with the expectation that the school will teach the child. Is that not accurate?
